Is snow cold?

The D0 point is what tells the xbox to boot from the mod chip or the original bios.

....and what the hell is that green thing? It's been bugging me for ages, cracks me up tho.

MRA Hack on a 838 drive

I have a Lite-On 838 drive that I am planning to RMA hack (not sure if it is v1 or v2 yet) so that I get the calibration data and whatnot, do I need to use the 838info command first to figure out the version it is or will Jungle Flasher auto detect the version and load the proper firmware?

Re: MRA Hack on a 838 drive

Why don't you try to flash the drive using the v1 method. Then if you can't dump it that way then the only way to do it is via the MRA way.

turns out it was a v1 made a dummy.bin file before I did the RMA hack though just in case, wanted to get the calibration data.

oh jesus! - how many times - that data is not important - its not used. refurbed drives returning from has didnt have any data!
it is purely test data left over from manufacture

Actually it is proven why some drives lasers go out faster. That is why the 7xxx series drives lasers go out. I will post an article with proof of that later.

Re: MRA Hack on a 838 drive

"I recomend using the MRA method now as the old method does not copy the drive's calibration data over, this can cause shortend life of the drive and it can also cause the drive not to read disc's as well as it should.

You will, if you choose, be able to still use the older methods, they just wont be officially supported.

Instructions for those who do want to use that method can be provided, they just wont be onscreen instructions"

Re: MRA Hack on a 838 drive

And this is what a the mod stores were I buy all my xbox 360 mods stuff said...
All users should be using a 100% dump on ALL liteon drives. By doing a 100% dump you retian your laser calibration data. Probing the R-707 on fw 7xxxx liteon's will not retian this information. If you wonder why the liteon drive goes through so many lasers it is because people are deleting there laser calibration data using the probes to pull liteon 7xxxx information

Actually, you are wrong! What BraveH43 said is correct, refurb drives from M$ repair centres dont have calibration data present at all, they are always missing that information yet they work fine, want more info? Come see us at #jungleflasher on efnet.

Re: MRA Hack on a 838 drive

explain why the liteon lasers go out so fast. Is it from bad media. Because I have had a liteon with no calibration data go through lasers like water. I use verbs and burned at 2.4x speed. I would like to know what I am doing wrong.

Honestly, I have a liteon that has been working since like early 2009 and I never had a problem with it.

Re: MRA Hack on a 838 drive

I dont know. But it has not only been me who has had this issue. I have sold 100+ preflashed 360s and I would say 1 in 10 would have read issues with good media. Then I did the mra hack and pretty much slim to none of my 360s sold had reading issues. Maybe there is a connection I dont know. Though, from my results I believe that doing the mra hack makes your drive reading ability better and life longer. Though, prankster, please enlighten us if you have a different reason why this occurs.

Re: MRA Hack on a 838 drive

So can anyone answer the original question, if I just RMA a 838 drive do I need to know if it is v1 or v2 or will JF automatically load the proper firmware?

Re: MRA Hack on a 838 drive

yah, it will automatically load if it is in the firmware file of JF. Duh, lol. Come on MrPete, your better than that.

Your going to RMA the drive to Microsoft... Interesting.

Re: MRA Hack on a 838 drive

I even use Memorex discs which are supposedly a "cheap medium".
