Do you need to flash your firmware on a regular basis?

Hello,

I recently took my xbox 360 from its storage shelf due to the release of GTA V. Now it has been a year or 6 months (not sure how long it was) that i have played with my xbox 360. Due to the old age of my xbox 360 i prefer to play with backups from the games i buy, because now and then my drive causes scratches on the dvd's wich often result into busted games. Now i think my firmware on this xbox 360 is lite 2.0 or higher, certainly not 3.0 and i have noticed there is a new update lite 3.0. Now i was wondering if i need to update my firmware to 3.0 to play gta V backup? If so i dont have any of the original information i stored from when i flashed it last time (pc burned down), but i dont think that is a big issue. And also do i have to flash to stock firmware first before i flash to 3.0 or can i just flash from 2.0 to 3.0 incase you advice me to flash it to play gta V. Thanks in advance for the support and tips.

Sincerly Yours

1st off you will need to update your cfw to 3.0 to play GTA 5, as its a XGD3 Title.

You say you do not have any data from the drive in your PC, so I need to ask, what system do you have, Slim or Phat?

If you have a phat, as long as you system launches games now, it does not really matter what was on your dead PC. As long as your system launches titles it means the DVDkey is correct thus you can get the information you need from that drive.

If your dashboard was above 13599+ when you had your drive flashed it would not matter, you can just upgrade to LT 3.0 without changing anything on the console. But if not you would want to revert to stock, apply an official update then flash the LT+ 3.0 afterward.

First of all sorry for the late response, got hospitalized ....

Dashboard is 2.0.126250.0 .

My xbox isnt jtagged or RGH'd so not sure why i should mess around with my kernel? Although i have read that gta V needs a special way of burning through the use of burner max payload overload tool, wich will force me to buy a new burner, so might be smart to RGH my xbox then. But if i dont decide to do that, shouldnt, i just flash it to 3.0 from the current state its in without reverting back to stock?

Sounds like playing your retail disc may be your best option.
