If you only have the one network card then this is exactly what would happen.slobkilla said:Well I say the post was not entirely a waste of time as it helped me get my dash onto my xbox. One question I have is. After switching all those IP's around I found I was able to FTP but my internet access no longer worked until I switched my PC's IP back to automatic. Is this unusual or did I fumble a step somewhere?
not to bring up a dead thread, but are u saying that if ive only got the one ethernet port i cannot setup a router to hook up my pc and xbox and have internet access?? i can only connect my xbox and pc, but not have internet access on the pc, and I would not be able to use xlink kai?? i need 1 network card to be able to talk to the xbox and use xlink kai, and the other card for reg. internet??Martin C said:If you only have the one network card then this is exactly what would happen.
You would need to reconfigure it each time you changed from Xbox to Internet.
Martin
Absolutely not. If you only have a modem, then you would either need a separate router to do the both. If you already have a router, then you can connect the three to communicate with each other.toografik4u said:not to bring up a dead thread, but are u saying that if ive only got the one ethernet port i cannot setup a router to hook up my pc and xbox and have internet access?? i can only connect my xbox and pc, but not have internet access on the pc, and I would not be able to use xlink kai?? i need 1 network card to be able to talk to the xbox and use xlink kai, and the other card for reg. internet??
A router can be used with ANY network connection once configured correctly.toografik4u said:please explain how, i am at college and use an ethernet cord to connect to the internet, i can just hook up my xbox and pc to the router and have both share the internet access right?? please explain how, i have read the tuts and everything but they all seem to say that i cannot do this. like i said i have a pc, an xbox, a router, and connect to the internet via an ethernet cord. am i doing it wrong? all the cords i am using are straighthrough, do i need a crossover cable?? thanks in advance
Most of what Martin said to do the Router will do automatically. If you have a linksys router, which is the most common, it will run a protocal called Network Address Translation which will allow you to run multiple systems on one ethernet connection.Martin C said:A router can be used with ANY network connection once configured correctly.
Connect your college internet connection into the WAN socket on the router. Configure it to a different subnet to the internet connection itself. Either leave the Xbox and PC as DHCP, or assign them addresses and gateways into the same subnet.
