I am looking at putting a bigger hdd in my xbox, I am looking at getting a 200GB Segate HDD. But I am not sure if there is a set type of drive you can install or the segate model numbers for the drives that you can install.

Any help please?

This HDD ought to work fine. I don't think anybody on this site has ever really had a problem with any Seagate.

shouldnt have any trouble with seagate or western digital since microsoft already uses their drives in the xbox. only problem you might have with some drives is not being able to lock them

Someone needs to make a IDE to SATA converter so I can connect a raptor ;)
You can spin the drive as fast as you like, and put as large a cache on there as you like, but the IDE bus just isn't going to read it any faster. It might make writing data to the drive a little faster, but that is a stretch.

Also, consider that as spec'd the IDE bus is ATA-1 compliant, which means that MS under under no obligation to provide support for anything greater than ATA33 speeds (hence the 40pin IDE/ATA33 cable). BUT, the Southbridge chip is actually spec'd to support ATA100 speeds, and the stock hdd are actually ATA66 compliant drives (EIDE).

Cheaper solution is dropping in an ATA100 cable, and an ATA100 compliant drive ... no point in having a Ferrari if you can only do 35MPH on the suburban streets.
