There are two schools of thought regarding when to "find magic number". One is after spinning up your 7.95+ Gig DVD. The other is after you have swapped in your 360 game. I get the error you are talking about when I swap in my 360 game and click on "find magic number". However, I've now resorted to clicking on "find magic number" when I put Gladiator in. I also "save layout" after finding the magic number because I usually have to edit the layout file to get a full read of my game. I've backed up several games this way. Search this site for instructions on saving the layout file and modifying it to copy or "dummy" certain unreadable sectors.

No. I'm telling you to load Gladiator and then click on "find magic number". Save the layout file. Find the tutorial on backing up games on this site where they explain how and what to modify in the layout file. Modify the layout file and save it back to disk. Swap out Gladiator for your game disc. Load the modified layout file. Spin up your game disc. And then dump it to your hard drive.

You find the magic number after swapping for the 360 game. As stated so in many tutorials. I don't know where you read to find the magic number with the movie DVD, but it is wrong. The whole point in finding the magic number is to find the offset values of difference between your DVD and the game.

"Hotswap DVD is too small" is either just that - your DVD is too small. Or, it's that you're trying to use the pinhole when most drives don't work with it.

Here's a thread on team xecuter that "finds the magic number" from the movie DVD.
http://www.team-xecuter.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40838&highlight=wxripper

Here's another one from engadget.
http://www.engadget.com/2006/05/21/how-to-create-backup-copies-of-your-xbox-360-games/

I only mention these because I've never gotten wxripper to "find the magic number" after swapping in my 360 game. It always says "dvd too small" and that's using Gladiator. I've only made successful wxripper backups by finding the magic number from the movie dvd.

I'll post a couple other sites that show this method later tonight.

Yes. Just need to burn them with the correct layer break and the injected SS.bin. I also had to change the "C" to "D" in the first 3 lines of the layout file. See TEXTBOOKs pdf on backing up games. He shows editing required for bad sector reads. I did it on Dead Rising and Perfect Dark Zero. Both backups boot up and play fine on my flashed 360.

Hrmm.. that's interesting. I am sorry, I must be wrong. That really makes no sense to me, as I always thought the "find magic number" was for finding the offset/difference between your DVD and game. Well, if it works, might as well use it that way.
