If I were you get a X360usb. The via cards sometimes work with slims but they are very flaky when it comes to doing a lot of reading and writing. plus the drivers are a pain sometimes, you'd just be far better off with the x360usb. :p

Its been said that you can flash slims fine with a via card and a ide-sata converter (about $30USD all up). The people who have used this method have sworn by it, saying it will flash all drives for xboxs.

Only thing is if you get one of these, you won't get any support for it here, being a tx support site.

I would say get the usb pro. It may be more expensive but it definately makes things easier, when you include the ck3i its a breeze flashing any drive. Also, if you are having issues, theres a very active forum for support.

Just my suggestion. You could go the via + converter route, and you be able to flash all drives, but then your almost on your own when problems surface.

You can use a usb to sata convertor to set 0x72
then hot swop to the via card,
this is called the usb trick and is well documented,
However its a pita , you will have to hot swop three times
to get a read and write on a slim drive.
As for doing all drives, you will find that via cards
donot like phat hitachi drives, pre 78 can be a real pita, and all revisions are flakey, this has always been the case from the beginning of flashing.
So to recap,
CAN via do slims, YES but its a pita hot swopping.
ALL drives , NO, phat hitachi can be a pita, ramupload fails,
undetermined rev.
get a x360usbpro imo and be pain free.
