I offer services to locals to mod there Xbox's and if they bring me a game they own I'll back it up for them so there kids wont break them. Recently a friend of mine with several kids wanted a Xbox for his living room modded and brought me one he just bought from someone off Craigslist.
Come to find out its been bricked, and at one time an attempted fix for overheating. Currently it wouldn't turn on for more than 4 minutes without powering down. They tried to get a refund, the seller refused and the police are powerless when it comes down to it unless you want to go to small claims court and spend double the money.

So my advice when buying an Xbox from a site like Craigslist, Remove the front faceplate and if the seal is broke... Ask. If they claim to not know why, dont buy it!
In the case im talking about they said it was never opened, well they lied. Second time around when questioned it was said they started to mod it and never did. When the police were involved they said they bought it second hand. So as you see people are dishonest. A lot of times people will sell there Xboxs when it starts to show issues or has been banned. A warning sign a modder has been involved is the security seal in the front has been broke to open the Xbox. In my personal opinion i would also avoid the original Xboxs that don't have an HDMI that would be more prone to the RROD. (but that's just me)

Its common since to you and I, but the averaged Joe doesn't think or even know that sticker is under there. As was the case with my friend who brought me this pile. lol
I myself like to buy consoles from places I can return and don't gotta hunt down if something is wrong. Pawn shops or even vintage game stores. People online are to iffy if
you don't know them personally. I wouldn't even trust Ebay myself.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately thieves will steal from anyone without shame. We need to be very careful.

I bought a cheap 360 xdk from gumtree (£60) when it arrived it turned out to be a damaged kit from china with the power and av ports destroyed, I replaced em with a dead consoles, messed around with it for 6 months and sold it for £160.

What I've found out about people selling dud phat 360s on craiglist:
Other than the warranty sticker behind the faceplate and assuming it is being sold as console only.

- If they say it's a working console only, try to offer $20. If they take it, it's probably broken
- If they say it's a RR system that hasn't been opened and they are asking $30, offer them $15. If they say ok, red flag.
- If they are selling a 360 with a dvd error, ask what the message is when the put the disc in. Then have them put a DVD and a game in. If it's unreadable disc i'd spend $20 max. If it's Play DVD only, avoid it unless you got the tools to pull the DVD key from the motherboard.
- Check the back of the 360, if it looks like there are pry marks (even slightly) pass on it or don't spend more than $20.
- If there is a GameStop sticker over the original serial number don't spend more than $20.
- See if they will meet you at a GameStop or similar store that will accept trade in 360s. When going to GameStop or the store, tell them that you are thinking of trading in the 360 for store credit. GameStop tests their systems in front of you before they take them in for trade. They also check the warranty sticker (most times) and test out a game to see if it loads. This is the best way for people who don't have the equipment to test the system out and want to meet in a public place can protect themselves. If they won't meet you there, don't buy it.

Bricks and video cords can be found for $10 - $20 as combos on EBAY.
I've found that basic wired controllers can be found brand new at Best Buy for $15 - $20.
Tell them to take a picture of the 360 with the faceplate off so you can see the warranty sticker.

I find that people won't always check the 360 Faceplate sticker (at the least) or ask questions because they are scared of a confrontation by the seller. Some sellers make it hard because they want to off load their bad system and can make the experience intimidating. Some sellers even threaten to call the police on you if you want to get your money back. Keep in mind if you were sold a bad system tell them something like this "If you don't meet me at a public place to give me my money back I'll call the police for you and give them all of your information including your phone number, license plate number, car make and model". If they are scared of the police for one reason or another, odds are they'll meet you. But only meet them in a public place with cameras and a lot of people.

I've had a lot of fun with craigslist people as you can tell. Hope my experience can help others.

Or u can pack a .45 caliber glock that always work for me. I meet with Craigslist all the time and won't go without my firearm because people want to try and jack u

The biggest problem I have is people want you to pay retail price for non working stuff but only want to pay "broken as is" prices for stuff that works.

cl is great for selling, lol, but dont ever buy anything,as a repair guy in the local area i get in at LEAST 2-3 sob stories a day bout how they bought a box off cl,and it may have worked from 2 days to 2 months, but have to come see me for reball or what have you.its better to just not buy these things off places like that period.i tell people like this, from the use of bga,and lead free solder, add the board warpage /flex due to heating and cooling cycles, and these things have a shelf life alot like bread or milk, just last longer,so if your buying secondhand, you have no clue how much of this life is gone/left.and ive seen cases where a seller legit sold a console that was running 100% and he never did have any issues with it,but just happens to rrod on the buyer few days later,it does happen.just best to not buy from places like that tbh imho

EDIT: thats not even mentioning the boxes that i have seen straight up "mollested" from many views of the old youtube "get er goin" videos from the scum of the earth. heatgunners no offence :p

i also like to make them trip thier own selves up,ill ask if its ever been opened up,and if they say no,ill ask some other questions, bullshit ones really, then out of no where ask what drives in it,if they answer me with a drive manu real fast, hang up.
