Besides getting a VIA6421 PCI Sata Card for my computer, has anyone successfully used a x360usb v2 for Dosflash? I have a kamikaze pcb for 16d4s and I believe it has a bad flash and wanted to Dosflash it. I have a 03-57-00 error on my trinity most of the time with original (untouched) winbond 0225. I managed to load a disk and play a game maybe twice. I replaced the worm gear to no avail and wanted to try another pcb (maybe firmware got corrupted) before I bought another drive but the kamikaze is giving me problems(i dont even know if it ever worked but im told it did). Prob 2 seperate issues but just wanted to give all background info.

Well just reading thru the forums some people said you can dosflash a pcb when it has no chip properties or if it has bad flash and you can't get it into vendor mode in jf to write to it. Also just educational purposes. If I can get the kamikaze written to I would just swap my original with it.

No, jf is sufficient for all flashing purposes. And dosflash doesn't support x360usb. If your kamikaze doesn't give good flash properties in vendor mode.....BANZAI!

In the case of a spelling error, I blame Tapatalk.

So how do people successfully use dosflash to write to their chip when they can't in jf? User error? Well would you have any suggesstions for my error code. The drive spins for literally 1 or 2 seconds before it comes back with the error code. Before buying another drive I will pot tweak it to see if maybe the laser is on its way out but I wouldnt think so because it spins so short of time (1 sec) then errors out. Thought maybe more of a mechanical issue with the drive malfunctioning thats why I replaced the worm gear motor.

dosflash and via cards are a thing of the past
For you.
I don't flash drives as often as I used to, but at least 1 out of 3 I'd have to go back to dos for.
Liteons, benq, samsung. Phat types.
JF would just behave funny or outright freeze up the system.
And yes, I removed the via drivers, even from backup folders and winsxs.
Id try for 30 mins or so, give up, load up dos, 2 minutes and done.

Ive heard other users say that as well so I was just wondering. Did any of your liteon show no chip properties and you couldnt get it into vendor mode?

I've NEVER had to use DOSFlash. You're doing something VERY wrong.

I never had to either but I hear some peoples computer might freeze doing flash process or some other wacky thing happens and they end up with a bad flash and bad chip properties. But most of my questions were answered. I will try the kamikaze pcb in jf again and also try to probe mpx01 and see where I get. Thanks for the help

I have never heard that the computer freezez when using x360usb pro v1/v2, only when using the onboard sata ports. If you cant get in to vendor or get wrong flash propertys using x360usb, then your kamikaze went wrong.

I have heard alot of people claiming to have fixed their wrongly drilled kamikaze-pcb's using dosflash but its only bullshit of course.

dosflash is only useful when you have a semi-compatible chipset for flashing drives

you have the x360usb which is the perfect chipset for flashing drives

ergo, dosflash would never be needed

No that's true - everyone knows that software can weld metal.

Youre so funny! :D

Always fun to see how people blames the software for the hardware faults they caused, and how some other software fixes it.

This was also back on a 64bit Windows 7 when most people were still on 32bit XP's. Unsigned driver support errors, etc.
But from the last few I did, the rare reupdate when I already had keys, JF has been fine with me.
Only concern I have is I have a ck3 lite that would sometimes still be on when "off".
I think maybe thats why I would prefer dosflash because it would poll the device differently.
I just remember once I hit refresh device, forgot to turn on ck3 lite, reach over and see JF still saw it. And finally came to the realization that the power switch only seems to turn on/off the power led.

Last i remember doing a bunch of flashes, pogo mo thoin was just coming out, which i still never got to use.

Bah, vista. xp or 7. Not that crap in between.
Sometimes the old is still good. Like hot swapping a PCI card.
They say you can't, dosflash has taught me otherwise.

No-ones ever seen the *still* unfixed NForce bug in JF - the one Schtrom's nailed -

512kb SST BenQ's etc... ?

Sadly, as much as I love JF, DosFlash still is needed in the 'scene' for some. I'd love to see schtrom add x360usb support.

-- But the command line version has gone to sh*t, the command flags are just too confuddling.

FreeDOS with a menu based system, now that'd be cool ;)
