now i have downloaded the bios and evox, what is next?
(must i say the tutorial on getting onto #xbins, was EXCELLENT)

You have to flash the new bios you downloaded. Be sure you use the proper version for your Xbox. To learn how to flash, go here.

Are you putting a new hard drive in? If so, you would probably be better off downloading Slayers to prepare your hard drive.

as you said you are a noob and you wanted to know what to do next here is a very good suggestion:

1) do nothing for now

2) do some very extensive reading - try tutorials over at xbox-scene.com, there are also excellent tutorial links on flashing you chip etc on the front page of this site

3) once you are a bit more familar come back and ask some specific questions if you are having problems - people tend to be more sympathetic to people who have atleast tried to understand rather than asking for it spoon fed to them

firstly it's not just a case of listing what to do for you - you really need to understand the basic principals behind what you are - for example if I was to say you need to FTP your new dashboard over - you might not even know what FTP is for example and then you are no better off

you time would will be better spent reading for 4 hours to make sure you get it right rather than spend 12 hours repairing what you might screw up.

all info is good info, im glad i got pointed in the right direction.
i got slayers auto installer v2.6 final. is this the right one?
i have an FTP and know how to use it.
do you guys think i should do for the bigger HDD?
all i really want to do is play backup/imports and have a few apps on there. but if a bigger HDD is needed i will do so. is there a brand you would recommend? and what size, sort etc?

hello again m8,

yep for an absolute noosb these autoinstallers are very good as they format your drive install all software for you - makes the whole process very easy.

the only thing I would warn with these autoinstallers such as slayers is not to use the bios flashing features - just talking from experience that they can cause a bit of grief as some of the bioses on these discs are not official ones ie they have been hacked abuot a bit.

if you are going to use an autoinstaller I would not use slayers anymore as all the apps are a bit out of date. It will work but if you are keen on having all the uptodate version of everything I would switch and try and download autoinstaller deluxe - which again is availible in the usual places.

and yes aa larger hard disk is always adventageous depending on what you want out of your box - if you are looking to play games and media files from the hard disk then this is the way to go. All of the autoinstallers such as slayers and autoinstaller deluxe will be able to setup a large hard disk for you.

but if money is tight you will be able to play with apps and stuff while you familiarize yourself with the stock XBOX HDD.

i will get the autoinstaller deluxe
as to connecting my xbox to my pc, i have a cable that plugs into the back of my xbox and into my nic on pc. is this the rite cable? it came with my broadband modem.
if it isnt what sort is needed? exact details so i can order one.
then i can access the xbox to 'backup' my games.

i will get onto the program and holla if i need another hand

right, forget getting all your software from P2P filesharing apps,

You need a crossover cat5 ethernet cable.

Yesh, that is what you need. The one going from your modem to your computer is likely a patch, not a crossover.

i ordered a 2.6ce chip (solderless)
i have slayer's auto installer
so whats the best method of attack from here?

*install chip, run slayer's?????
