LITEON 0225 drive keeps open and closing all the time.

bought a slim the other day for cheap,ive fixed it up but now when you fire it up it just keeps bleeping and open n closing on its own.
i was wonderind if its the drive its self or the pcb ribbon in the face plate?

I had this same issue with a console a while ago and found no suitable fix. 10 different drives did the same thing reballed southbridge replaced components nothing it was pretty horrid.

Heres an odd tidbit after southbridge reball it would work for a few power ons and off then would continue to malfunction. Try a different drive and check voltage on the status pin.

Does it boot? if so, you may rgh it and remove the drive altogether. You can also remove the faceplate and boot. My slim operates without the faceplate and sometimes without dvd drive.

there is a switch tied to three wires on the bottom that the clips break off easily. Check thsts still in place. Bottom of drive front middle

Have you tried removing the Ribbon between the faceplate and the box? If you have damaged the ribbon whilst opening the case this the result. If it works fine with the ribbon removed then you will need to replace the broken ribbon. They aren't expensive.

Could be faulty ribbon, Faulty Drive or Faulty RF board. Do as others have suggested and test without ribbon, and swap the rf board with another if you have one at hand to test it.
