Drive makes high pitched squeeling noise when playing BU's - Thompson

ok I have the v1.0 xbox, and x2.6 working prperly, It plays backups fine, but when playing the DVD Rom is making high pitched squealing noises only when playing backups, I know this must be from the sh*tty thompson drive, but is there anyway to fix this problem without having to buy a new one?

You need to be careful when doing this, but try these suggestions:

Take apart the drive and make sure there's no dust and debris, etc...

Grease up the track with some electronic grease or whatever.

Check out www.xbox-hq.com or some other modding site for a tutorial on tweaking the drive's POT setting. THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO BE CAREFUL. If you overtweak it, you'll ruin your drive's laser.
