You should probably just open the damn drive and check it! From the sounds of it though the plastic from the top of the spindle motor has come loose. Let us know what you find out, not you have me curious. :smile:
I have done already, I couldn't workout what was wrong with it????

I seem to have the same problem, except the magnet is still there.
Spindle is what appears to be making the noise. any thoughts beyond the missing magnet theory?

After tearing it fully apart and powering up each single component it looks like there are some bearings that went to sh*t. soooo replacing the motor or the entire drive is the option if i can find parts.
