Okay, I'm now on my third week of trying to flash my 360, and I'm starting to get REALLY sick of this! Anways, on to the details: I have a
MS28 Samsung drive
VIA6421A Card
Xeno Top Gear

I am using the method where I read from a USB drive, and I can get into DOS easy. I have followed Textbooks tut to the T, and yet every time I type xread I get a Drive not detected error... I've tried the method here, and have also tried many other methods on many other sites. I've even gone and disassembled the 360 again to see if the Xeno Top Gear was faulty, and still nothing.

On a related not I cannot get the HDD backup thing on the Xeno Top Gear to work..

Well the first problem I see here is the "Xeno Top Gear", that could be your problem right there because from what I understand its nothing more then a cheap copy of the The Wonderful "Blaster 360". Now your typing "xread" I don't type that when I read my firmware.

I type this :
F:\>mtkflash r /m /sata orig.bin

And are you using the 10 Sec Bad flash method for MS28?
Here is a link to the tutorial on how to do it :

Hope this helped.

I never used Top Gear, I used the 360 for power. I have had problems too with my VIA card in the past. Make sure you update your drivers to 5.40a.

Make sure you plug in the SATA cable to the master port (one towards the front of the computer). Plug that in first with power OFF of both 360 and PC with out it connected to DVD drive. Once it's connected to SATA port, power both on at same time and boot from USB. When you get to the dump/load screen, connect the other end of the SATA cable to the 360 and then type "mtkflash r /m orig.bin" (without ") and hit enter. It should pop up with "3. Xtreme" now. Turn your 360 off and hit "3". Wait 10 seconds and turn the 360 back on, and now it should start reading your original FW.

Turn both 360 and PC off and boot into windows. Copy and paste your DVD key from your orig.bin to your Xtremefw.bin with 360 toolbox and hit "replace key". Close out 360 toolbox and reopen it to check to see if your key got saved to the Xtremefw.bin. Shut down the PC and follow the same instructions in the second paragraph. The only thing you have to do different is type in "mtkflash w /m xtremefw.bin" instead of the first time. Once it's done, shut everything down and plug your 360 SATA cable back in and test a backup.

I know there are other methods like samread, but this is how i did over 30 samsungs wihout a problem.

Hope this helps.

First off, I have also tried mtkflash. It works about as well as xread for me. Second, I have already Re-Opened the 360 and connected the SATA cables directly from the card to the drive, so the Top Gear is likely not an issue.

I've tried dl'ing... vraid_driver_v540a.zip and installing it, but afterwards I cannot upgrade my driver as windows say that the 5.1 I have is the most up to date it can find...

Hmmm, sometimes these problems can be caused by Windows itself. If you are using "WinVista" this could be one of the problems because I never got anything to work with Vista. Now if your using Xp you may simply need to do a fresh install so that programs run more smoothly. And you did not confirm if you are using the "Bad Flash" method or not?

P.S. The "Back-Ups" feature in iXtreme Online v1.2 is removed so you will need to use another method to make backups.

I'm using XP SP2, the "Bad Flash" method, and XBM w/ 5.2 fw.
Also, I can't really go and fresh install right now... as I have no disc.

"10 second trick"
what exactly is the "0080 Disk"? I thought that was for Hitachi...

The "0080 Disk" is another method to disable the FirmGuard protection. Just like the "10 Second Trick" does. I personally use the "0080 Disk" because its easier to do when you have a "Blaster 360".

Here is the download link for the "0080 Disk" :
