Drive not reading games after flash

I recently flashed a friend of mines console to lt3.0 I know that drive has not been updated for a while (prior lt2.0) 1.9 maybe
I used his drive key that I had on file and flashed as usual, he later complained of no games working. Is this maybe a problem with the drive key? And how can I fix this?

What dashboard is the console on, and what kind of drive is it?

I just sent him a text asking for his dash... The drive is phat liteon 74*** paired with the original console
if his dashboard is not updated that would explain the problem cause his AP25 tables aren't updated,, buuut now that I think of it the disks have topology so it shouldn't make a difference?

Well depending on the dashboard version there's two different Lite-On firmwares, I don't recall if LT3 is only for updated (post-13146) consoles or not..all the Lite-On drives were updated to the same 02-something firmware after that dashboard version, and those are the only ones I've ever flashed with LT3, because I don't believe the features in LT3 are needed or usable on a prior dashboard because they don't support XGD3/topology. I have a feeling putting an 02-series Lite-On into a console pre-13146 would cause the same 'Play DVD' error but I have yet to confirm it.

The drive was already in 025 version, jungleflasher stated so. If I ripped a key prior to 13146 its still usable after correct? He is on the latest dashboard. Also if I flashed with a wrong key by accident how would I recover from that?

The key is usable yes, although I think I saw somewhere in a stickied tutorial that the pre-13146 dummy.bin is NOT usable. No idea if I'm remembering right, the info is there though.. If you flashed the wrong key, you'll have to either find the right key in your key database or written someplace, or RGH the console temporarily to recover the key right from the nand. Arguably depending on how many keys you've got RGHing may be the easier/faster option.

0251c is latest firmware, dvd key never changes with firmware change as long as it is known, safe and stored somewhere ur good.

If ur certain key is right, try pot tweak laser, liteon laser suck and will go out, if tweaking it works then good leave it be until it fries then just change laser out. 8$

I'm pretty sure I have the key, so I would just flash again with the correct key, there is also a chance I forgot to plug in the SATA :p

It won't detect if u didn't plug SATA, so not likely, try the laser tweak.

Many swear that flashing a LiteOn drive with the ribbon cable attached can burn out the laser.

Try re-flashing and testing with both backups and originals. If neither work after re-flashing, I would guess the laser is at fault. A new laser will fix the issue.

There were only problems immediately after flash, so I guess double check the key and reflash should fix it.. Thanks a bunch.... I'll be back later with the news.. I'll also post a jf log when I get home

I just got word that the drive says open tray after a disk is put in
Bad laser, 100% guaranteed. Check the laser ribbon cable first, but you'll have to either pot-tweak the drive or replace the laser. Replacements are anywhere from $5-$8, pot-tweaks are free but don't always work if the laser is totally dead.

OK 5-8 dollars is great news, if remember right all phat benq/liteon lasers are compatible, any recommendations of sites to buy from (I'm in canada)

this is quite odd as I've flashed dozens of xboxes without touching the laser ribbon cable and had no problems

So have I, but stranger things have happened. I may start unplugging drive ribbons from here on out myself..never believed the rumors but seeing it happen to somebody changes my tune a bit.

I don't know how familiar you are with replacing laser but when you buy a new one there is a little blob of solder of have to take off on the left side of where the ribbon connects. It doesn't take much. Just a quick touch with an iron will take it off or you can pick up some solder wick to help take it off.

if you auto-loaded the firmware with an old dummy.bin or key (pre 13146) it will load old firmware as in lt1.1 not lt3...your jf log would confirm this

This has NEVER happened to me. However, I have heard of the risks and started unplugging the cable each time.

I also don't think there is any explanation... It just happens.
