HITACHI 79 Drive not showing up in JF following mode B command

Am creating new thread as I think the earlier one got stuck and I think I can wrap this up quite quickly. Task is to unlock Hit 79 using unlock CD etc. Have previously been able to send drive to mode B but then got Failed to play unlock CD message etc

Problem I have is that my drive is not being recognised by JF when I send mode b. JF confirms mode b sent and the drive shows up in the top left corner of the Hit tab and also in the main window underneath. However it doesn’t show up in the drop down on the right when I send mode b and that is obviously the problem. Am I right in thinking that the drive should show up along with the PC DVD Drive which is there?

The other thing is that the drive seems to be stuck in mode b when I turn it on so that could be linked. Is there an obvious way of getting it back to mode a before sending mode b etc etc.

I have SATA with drivers uninstalled etc etc. I‘ve tried using API, Port IO etc.

I know I’ll probably end up buying a USB Pro but wondered if there was an easy workaround to clear this problem.

hi again, still no joy? lets see... normaly your pc drive shows up and after mode b and a few seconds it changes to hit drive.
if not maybe change sata ports.
is this the same pc from your earlier flash? if not maybe your chipset is not compatible

Many thanks. Really appreciate the advice as this is really helpful.

This board is the most helpful by far. I was about to answer my own question and say it's obvious why the Hit is not shown as I uninstalled the SATA driver.
(according to JF tut)

Will now reinstall and see if that makes any difference. However..... when I unlocked this drive ages ago I did so with VIA driver removed.

Also tried onboard SATA but drive didn't even appear in left hand side of Hit tab (never mind right hand drop down)

Hi

When you hit send mode B, JF (1.88) tells you to open tray, turn off, click OK, wait for the dots to appear, then turn on.

At that point tray closes and screen confirms Mode B done. I then hit the unlock and get the Failed to play audio CD every time.

Is that right?

The only thing I can think of is that the last time I installed the VIA it was showing as 3249 instead of 6421 but that was down to Windows. I uninstalled and reinstalled the drive and this time it's 6421 which it should have been anyway. Don't know if this makes any difference.

Still struggling.

Hope this is right. This is the JF log using Win API with VIA drivers installed.. It's a bit messay as I kept repeating. What's starebge is that it appears as though I didn't attempt mode B and unlock after the drive was found but I did.

after its says hitachi found with arrow, than you should unlock .
weird is that it found the drive only 3 times ater so many tries.

defo got via issues, youre better of with usbpro

I've just ordered a new laser just in case that's the problem.

As far as USB Pro is concerned would I not risk the same issue not being able to play the CD-you still have to do that with the USB Pro right?

no not really ,its a piece of perfect enginering, i love that tool , makes life so easy.
if it is the laser than the usbpro wouldnt make a difference.

Here's the way I do it and has never failed me...
-Use onboard SATA (My chipset is NVIDIA)....VIA for all others
-Eject drive tray and place unlock CD in
-With tray still fully open, send ModeB command (Tray closes and ModeB confirmed)
-Scan for new hardware and wait for "<---- Hitachi Found"
-Make sure Hitachi drive is selected in top right box
-Click 79 unlock, JF confirms unlock
-Dump drive
-If on modified firmware, restore firmware
-Flash LT-Plus

Hi

I have two onboard SATA ports and whichever one I use causes the PC to freeze.

I was hoping someone would advise whether that Drive rev undetermined, aborting message was about chip properties or DVD drive laser etc etc.........
