Hello, i got a problem:

a friend of mine brought me an xbox, to change his hitachi drive spoofed as 74850 liteon for an original liteon.

I get the key only using "dump drive", cause it wouldnt do mode B. But it was dumped and looked good.

Then i opened JF, select target fw and copied the key. When I attach "new" liteon drive, it showed me it is an samsung (wtf) but i realised there is a game dvd in it, after manually opening the drive and removing dvd i closed it and attach to usbpro and ck3i. Drive showed in JF, but had sometimes problem with liteon erase, but finally i wrote the fw (74850 since it was 12625 dash). The key was not verified. I attached the drive to xbox and green light is flashing and drive still opening/closing...

i used all 74850fw´s in stock fw folder as long as LT+1.1 for that drive. Nothing changed

Later I realised that probably "mechanic part of the drive" is not "clicking down" after closing drive. I closed it manully with a little bit of power, it clicked but xbox instatle get 3rrod, fault 0001. After restart no rrod, but still opening/closing.

I realised to update fw (to 15574) which went good, but drive still flashing. I attached it to jf, it showed drive 0251, i probed it and get good dvd key (the same i wrote to fw few steps before). Then i flashed it with LT+3.0, put into xbox and... still that same fault.

The worst thing ist that "original" (hitachi spoofed as liteon) no longer works and makes the same thing that liteon (opening/closing).

Can it be wrongly extracted dvd key? How can i get it when it wont go into mode B? (its 78 hitachi)

Can the drive be dead? (but then, why hitachi does not work? can it be because of update?)

I´ve found somewhere that capacitors/resistors near dvd power cable on xbox motherboard could be faulty. (but what makes that? it worked before and i did nothing with them...)

I would be very happy for every help!

There are two sensors inside the drive just metal contacts hich connect the the two white wires and the two yellow wires. If these contacts are not connecting when closing or opening the drive tray will either eject or close automatically. You can manually eject and close the drive and at both positions check for continuity on the contacts or at the PCB end on the wires.

that sensors looks ok, but thanks anyway...

i just got another xbox (xbox number 2) and put that drive into it, it just opens and closes well, although there was benq drive, green light was not flashing and it was opening good

on the other side, i´ve mount that benq drive into xbox number 1 and it is doing the same thing.

because of 3 drives doing the same, its definitely xbox related fault... any advices?

I had a zephyr like a week ago was doing something about the same as what you are having, turned out it was the south bridge, replaced it and no more problems, not saying it is for sure but may be something to go by on it.

I uploaded a pic on another thread a few month back with 2 points to bridge that could solve it I'll see if it's still on my computer and up it

EDIT

Try solder a piece of wire between the 2 points in the pic its worked a few times for me

only difference u will find with this fix is that when you push the tray to close, it wont you have to use eject or through the dash but no biggy ;)
