GENERAL Dual Nand Non-USB HDD Options

I have a Trinity 4GB with Coolrunner/Demon. Currently I am booting to FSD (on 500gb Seagate USB HDD) via dashlaunch. The main problem with this is when ever I power the console down the usb hard drive is not detected on boot unless I
A.)Unplug the usb cord and plug it back in while xbox is off, or not to far into boot animation.
B.)Unplug and replug the power to the xbox

I made a thread about this previously here and evidently other people are having the same issue.

So now I'm trying to figure out what my options are. I recently configured the Connect X plugin to stream back ups from my 10TB RAID so I no longer even need the space of the external I just need options for booting directly into FSD other then via USB.

1.)If I install FSD to the 4GB Intmu will this be a flag for anything when booting into retail?
2.)If I throw a 750GB laptop drive in the internal slot and let the xbox format it can dashlaunch (I assume so) boot FSD from a non MS or non WD converted drive? If it can would this be a flag for any thing on the retail side? Also could I use the hacked compatibility files w/ non MS Drive?
3.)If I buy or make a MS drive and install in internally, is it safe to boot FSD from that and/or safe to store backups?

Personally 1 TB 2.5" SATA HDD would sort your issue out. Some USB HDDs (notably newer USB3.0 ones) don't restart properly. Connectx is horribly slow and not all games work. Your 1TB HDD (internally) would have the exact same functionality of a retail HDD. Your retail NAND would never see it.

So the only down side to this option is not being able to use the compatibility files to play original xbox games? This isn't a big deal, bc I still have my original modded xbox.

you can still use them, you just need to use hdd compat partition fixer to create the hddx partition and copy the compatibility files across.

I just tried a fat32 formatted 750GB empty hard drive in my slim and after plugging in the hard drive the xbox started throwing E68 errors. If I get a 320 GB MS HDD is it dangerous to install FSD, or store back ups on there?

With mine i just hooked it up and formatted it with the xbox. no need to format to fat32 first.I used a Western Digital Scorpio Blue 1TB 2.5" hdd if that helps.

I would check the HDD out on a PC first, making sure it's ok to use. E68 usually happens when the drive has a hardware issue.

The fact it's FAT32 formatted is irrelevant.

You could use an MS HDD with no problems.

I went ahead and made a 320gb MS HDD. For any one looking for confirmation the HDD's sold at best buy as "Western Digital Mainstream" are actually rebadged Scorpio Blue drives. Mines model number started with BPVT. I suspected as much but had a hard time finding confirmation. Installed the drive and everything is good. Changed my dashlaunch patches to point to internal and moved FSD to internal HDD.

I'm planning using ConnectX to stream titles for access to most of my game library. Things that don't work via ConnectX or are just games I play often will be stored on internal HDD. I've had good luck getting most everything to work with ConnectX with the exception of Madden 25. A little off topic , but does anyone know where I might go for ConnectX support?

Is there anything I need to worry about storing on internal HDD since the retails side uses/sees it? Unlocked DLC? DLC not approved for my Live account? Hombrew/emulators?

I have liveblock enabled for dashlaunch and never play unreleased games on my live profile is there anything else to avoid doing to not get banned? I realize things change all the time and nothing is guaranteed, but I'd like to at least avoid the obvious instances.

You didn't need an official WD drive. Had you carried out the advice given, the new HDD wouldn't have been detectable by MS at all and all this would have been moot.

There's no support for ConnectX as it's a dev function.

I did need it b/c I have DLC I use on Live and with the amount of games like GTA V and COD:ghosts that need installs even for single player one 32 GB pen drive or 4GB MU wasn't going to cut it.

In light of that can you offer any final advise on being live safe?

I don't understand how this would have helped me? I NEED the retail NAND to see the storage b/c I use a lot of stuff on my retail NAND that needs storage to the point using multiple pen drives or what have you would be a PITA.

At first I didn't know what I wanted to do, but more and more just using 1 retail drive for both seems like it may work for for me. I assume the reason most people don't go this route is b/c 320 GB isn't much room for back ups once you start adding in all the other sh*t that piles up there? I'll just fill the retail HDD with what games I can and stream the rarely used stuff.

...

So is there nothing I'm over looking?

Thank you for your help as well :)
