DuoX 2 Cromwell/FlashBios Edition -Flashing problem

OK,

I'll admit I'm usually smart, but in this case I'm an idiot setting this thing up. So I have a modchip ;

DuoX 2 Cromwell/FlashBios Edition

The specs are on www.duomodchip.com.

I tried flashing my bios to run the evox dashboard. I used the http flashing method and tried flashing it with evox, apparently, that wasn't the wisest move. Now all that happens when I try to power up it goes up a second then down then up then down then flashes yellow+red and the modchip led indicator flashes red as well. I take it I screwed this thing over. The cromwell switched side works, though I don't know if I have much interest trying anything with that. My questions are...

1. Can I restore the flashbios ?

2. Is there a way to use the Cromwell portion for fixing?

I read about this hotswapping idea, unfortunately nobody nearby I know of has the same chip... I do have an old alladin chip but that would be too much hassle. I wouldn't plan on buying the programmer thing either, are there any other ideas?

Thanks

After looking at the website these Duox chips look like ass. I have heard people talk about them but never believed it.

I could not seem to get much info of their website you gave me. Really nice that they sell a product and seem to offer no forums or support on their own website.

Being honest with you, I don't think you are going to get anywhere without another XBOX to hotswap this chip in. From what I have read bank 1 contains Cromwell for booting Linux and bank 2 contains Flashbios. Now if I understand you correctly you have hosed Bank 2 and now have no flashbios?

One thought I did have, if you can still get bank 1(cromwell) which on the Duox website they claim they put on to load Linux. Now I have never installed or used xbox linux so some of the other guys might have to follow up this train of thought. Maybe you could use a version of XBOX linux and flash the chip that way? I think they call the Linux based flasher RAINCOAT. Even if it might work though I get the impression you might not be up for doing it?

The thing is you are limiting your options, you said you did not plan on buy the programmer. If you want to get this chip working you may have to buy it's programmer.

At the end of the day if you do decide to buy a programmer a better option might be to spend a few extra pound and get a quality chip like the X2 or X3.
It strikes me you don't really want the hassle, you just want a chip to work - which is understandable, not everyone likes the techy side of it. If this is the case like I said draw a line under the Duox chip. The Xecuter chips have a great user support base and will have that chip running for you in no time.

Is it any way possible to do a hot swap with my aladdin chipset? Would it work if I tried swapping and then running a slayer evox or something?

Thanks

a hot swap would be your way forward. if you could get your xbox to a dashboard or another way of flashing a chip using your aladdin and can then reconnect you dead Duox chip, then yes that should work.

I was wondering is it anyway possible to run in the cromwell boot-up and switch to the other bank after loadup and flash the flashbios? That would be a cool program to setup if someone with linux skills could do that. Man, I shoulda paid attention in my programming classes!

Thanks

i am having the same problam, but i made the mistake, i have two xbox's at the moment one is mine v1.0 and the other v1.6 is for my son in the UK, i installed both Duo X2 cromwell flash/bios chips in no problem, then on my v1.0 switched to bank 1 and flashed with the executer flash bios, started it up again and got the Xbox splash but instead of microsoft under the Logo it says executer 2, so far so good, it then goes to the M$ dash and i can load backup games. now when i started the v1.6 i made the mistake of putting the same bios file as the v1.0 so when i re started this xbox it frags and flashes red and green, i have been to slayers forum and got a little advice about swapping the chip from the v1.6 and putting it in the v1.0, i did this and the chip works can play backups, now the problem is how to re-flash to the v1.6 bios? so i can put this chip back into the 1.6 xbox?

hope somebody can help

Simple. While the chip is in the 1.0 Xbox flash on a 1.6 compatible BIOS. X2CL 5035 recommended. After reboot this chip will then FRAG or otherwise not boot on the 1.0 but when you move it back to the 1.6 is should work fine. This is essentially the exact opposite of what you had done with the initial flash on the 1.6.

ok that sounds easy.......but.......... when i start the xbox up with chip on bank 1
it shows the Xbox splash with the executer underneath and then to the microsoft dash
if i put a backedup game in it works, but anyother kind of disc it won't read
now if i start up in bank 0 it goes to the cromwell screen with the pic of a disc and then a pic of a monitor the monitor is for ftp i think?
and the other is for ???? because when i click it the drive opens for a disc but when i put a disc in and press the a button which it asks for nothing happens the screen sits there, but the disk is spinning, i don't have evox on my xbox, i am getting it now but it's gonna take a while

Ok, if you guys want to use cromwell to restore your bios, here's what you do. Go to Xbox-linux.org, and there you can find raincoat, a xbox linux distro (xebian or X-DSL should work for your purposes) burn the linux distro iso file to a dvd or cd-rw (if you have a thompson drive, suggest dvd - it's crappy reading cd-rw) load cromwell, insert disc and press a like it says (it won't boot your games etc, only a linux disc) linux will load, and then you can load the raincoat file off your pc over the network. (use "ifconfig" on the command line to do this- here's where you'll need to do your homework) unless raincoat is already on the disc (not sure about that one) move in another bios via ftp/http/whatever and flash with raincoat. Really, though, just read the documentation on xbox-linux.org for more explaination
btw, booting linux off the cd will not do anything to your xbox. It runs off the cd and out of RAM

For SolidMetal- Be sure to also grab a copy of quix, or download craxtion (google for it) so you can make an xbox bootable disc. You can obtain a copy of the evox dash and quix from xbins really easy. You will need make an iso (through quix or craxtion ) with the following files: evox.ini, evoxdash.xbe (renaming this to default.xbe first), the X2CL 5035 bios or any bios of your choosing (renaming it bios.bin), and a dummy file for good measure (almost any file of a few hundred MB). You might also want to include an additional copy of the bios file in a folder named "bios", as it has been way too long since I have needed to flash a chip through evox and I am not sure where it will want to look for it. Put that in your xbox and boot it up just like a backed up game. From there you should be able to flash your chip through the System Utilities option in the evox menu.

Sorry for the double post (damn 10 minute edit rule hehe :) ) This is what I would have edited it to finally.

Edit: you can also download a copy Slayer's or AutoInstallerDeluxe. These can load Evox (and many other programs should you wish it) to your hard drive. I believe you can also flash directly from the Slayers main menu, as it is basically a version of Evox, not sure about AID though.
