Hi

Its an active forum but not that active. :) Give people some time to wake up, most of those on here are USA based and are still asleep lol.

Did you get the exact same DVD Drive model as the one that has died?
Is your Xbox a Phat one (core, pro, arcade or elite)?
Do you have a Tower PC with a Spare SATA port, or an Xbox USB Sata Adapter (Name?)?

If yes to All then this will be rather easy..
You need to copy the special key form the old drive, then insert that key into the new one.
You can do this using a nifty little program called Jungle Flasher. Have a read through the tutorial here:
http://forums.360mods.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=21

IF you get stuck with the guide, do not hesitate to ask, people are always here to help.

If You are missing any of the above, there should be some one in your local town that can do the job for a few £. :)

I think its the exact same disc drive because i'd already opened up my old one and removed the stickers im not to sure what model that was but i think it was the one i bought, also its a xbox 360 slim 250gb hard drive so i don't know what category that would come under, and i don't have a tower PC i only have a laptop

Well if it was a slim, you would have been better off sending it back to Microsoft if it wasnt already open.
The slim models are allot harder to sort out, and im sure some one on here will be bale to point you to the right direction.

I would still have a read throug the Jungle Flasher tutorial, as this will help you understand what needs to be done, and how hard it will be to do.

So you have a Slim Console, To which you've opened and Pealed the dvd drive Label off, Seeming it doesn't sound like you've flashed it I have to Ask, Why?
Anyways If you Brought the Same model of your dvd drive your Original Dvd drive board holds your key, This Key has to be imported or Flashed onto your new drive in order for your console Play games.. so you have quick options..
1: Solder the Wires off the Board from the dvd drive itself and remove board, Get new drive and Solder your Board with your key into New drive which will work but you have solder wires Right where your Soldered off...
2: Buy a CK3 and Extract the Key off your dvd drive using PC, Jungleflasher etc, you need Get your dvd Key and Flash this key on your New drive..

your best option was to send it Microsoft for a free Fix but you've opened it rendering that option "not possible", Lets hope you opened it for a good reason other then fixing the dvd drive your self
