what exactly do you mean by doesn't work.. what does it do or not do ?

what does it display on screen when you attempt to load a game ?

does originals play ?

do all your backups not play ?

slightly turned both the screws to the left

that's not how you tweak the POT .. and if I remember correctly, one is for DVDs and one if for CDs.. could be wrong though as its been a very long while since i've done one.. usually just replace the laser as they're less than $10

get your DMM out, put it on the resistance scale and do it correctly

Hi,

I'm not an expert, but I do replace drives quiet often. For replacing drives on phat consoles (except hitachi, too many ROM versions) I dump fw from broken drive and flash it to new drive. One thing I make sure to do is update dash on original console before dumping dvd fw, thus to make sure everything is up to date. I noticed a mis-match on your JF log

Code:

I'm not sure if that is causing the issue, but I'm pretty sure there is a mismatch going on there, which could cause issues, I think.

Maybe you could try to move the original PCB in the place of the one in the new drive and see how it works out.

With that said, I doubt it will work now, you have adjusted the pot, so the laser is probably dead anyway now.

When I get a new replacement laser or drive, I NEVER touch the pot, pot adjustments do not FIX issues, pot adjustment will only increase the life of a dying laser, in my experience anyway, it will always fail in a short time.

I suggest you change the PCB from old drive to new drive, then try again with an original disc, see if it works, if not you will likely need a new laser, if you do, buy a new laser, remove static point and install it and do NOT touch pot and see how it works out.

EDIT:

About pot tweaking, simply turning them and hoping for the best will almost always result in a few minutes of working then a completely dead laser.

You're supposed to actually measure the reduction using a multi meter, by the way the left one is for DVD and the right for CD, turning counter clockwise would reduce, clockwise to increase, but since you have adjusted it without a multi meter, you probably fried it already, so buy a new laser or seek a replacement from another drive.

Great, I just hope that you didn't fry the laser by adjusting the pot. (Assuming you used the one you pot tweaked).

Just bear it in mind that it may work great now, but after some usage your laser may become defective, at which point you may need to replace it.

I actually "Blindly" adjust the pot on lasers my customers bring to me, but I only do it to verify the rest of the drive is working right, before I replace the laser.

Basically, the only reason to "Blindly" adjust the pots would be to make the laser work for a short period of time as to test the the other parts of the drive, such as the worm motor and spindle, knowing that you will be replacing the laser anyway.
