DVD Laser question

Just wondering, when the power lead is plugged in and the xbox is off, there is power to the psu, but the chip and everything else doesn't light up so I'm guessing that there's no power to the DVD lens. Just want to know if the DVD Lens is on when the power lead is plugged into the psu but the xbox isnt turned on. Thanks in advance.

I just want to know for safety when testing the dvd drive with no lid on; So that I know if I need to keep out of the way of it when the console is off, I know to keep out of its way when the xbox is on, but just wondered about when its off. Thanks in advance.

if your gonna have the top off, arent you usually going to have the dvd drive out of the xbox? lol

Yes that's right! it's not possible to test a dvd with the top off...your dvd will fly off the xbox.

lol thats what i thought, but you can take the magnetic spindal or w/e and lay that on top the dvd after you put it in, or w/e anyways... i guess no1 really know what you truly mean, so just go for it and see what happens, but tell us! lol

yeah a long time ago i tried it and my disc got all scratched beacaus it wasnt secure

Happened to me too...I was trying too revive a Thomson drive and I tested it without the top cover and that cost me a Burnout 3 game, tsk, tsk, tsk...what a waste! anyways, charged to experience, lol!
