No, it's not possible to burn 360 backups on regular DVD+R or DVD-R since 360 images are 7+GB in size. You must burn all backups on DVD+R DL, the DL stands for double layer. They have roughly twice the capacity and thus are completely different than DVD+R.

To be honest I'm not sure, I know they exist but I've personally never seen DVD-R DL in stores or online. For that reason I imagine even if you could find them they would be more expensive than DVD+R DL anyway. Your best bet is to go with Verbatim DVD+R DL as they seem to work for 100% of people here, that's what I use and I haven't messed up one yet. Others recommend Memorex DVD+R DL as well.

you cant use DVD-R DL because you need to set a custom layerbreak to burn you 360 games and that cant be done on a DVD-R DL. Only DVD+R DL support custom layerbreaks.

the materials needed to mod the firmware of a Hitachi drive
1)tools to take xbox apart
2)compatible SATA chipset
3)A SATA cable
4)a way to connect the chassis of the 360 and computer chassis to eliminate floating ground.(croc clips)
5)The latest slax disc
6)Hacked firmware
7)Textbooks Tutorial
8)And some free time

You also may want to check the compatibility of your sata chipset before you try to flash. I dont know which ones are compatible so dont ask me :D

you also may need the "open command window here" addon for windows.

Read the tutorial and follow it closly and you will do fine.

you need to somehow link the xbox chassis and the computer chassis together to eliminate floating ground. Watch textbooks video tutorial and he explains it. Its just a safety measure just incase something shorts out.

watto...you should start by reading Textbook's tutorial carefully, all the questions you're asking are already covered there. If you still have questions after digesting the tutorial post them and someone will help.
