I don't think that this post is against forum rules so here goes... I want to take my dvd's that I have and save them to my hard drive but in a playable format for windows media player. I know this is somehow possible because I have seen movies played from files before. Also I have used dvd shrink before to make a backup copy but it doesn't make the files in a media player readable format. Does anyone know of any freeware programs or how I can go about this? Thanks

Google- Rip it for me - it's a dvd ripping tool it will also remove the css protection there is an option in settings to make a video ts folder check that. then rip to the hard drive. Windows media player 10 and Nero showtime will play the video on windows media player hit the file tab then open and browes to the video ts folder pick the first file in the folder.

Another method that works is ripping the movie to an ISO with DVDshrink, then use Daemon Tools to mount the ISO as a virtual DVD and then it will play just as if you had the disc in your computer's dvd drive.
