I bought some tdk dvd+rw's for my xbox 'cos the tdk dvd+r's work in in (thomson drive).

When i burnt iso's to the compatible discs (tdk dvd+r) (I know these work in my xbox cos i have done them sucessfully before), it didnt work, so i think it's my laptop's dvd +rw recording drive:........

And when I want to copy files for use in the laptop, (not iso files), it will only burn to cd-r/rw discs in microsoft cd writing wizard. Record Now failed to work before, so thats why i triedthis software, (its standard on all windows pc's).
If i click "write these files to cd", "next", it says "insert a recordable cd into the drive". It only says this with dvd's, cd's work fine. I use the dvd/cd +rw combo drive that was in there when i bought the laptop.

I have any dvd and clone dvd on my laptop, which could possibly be causing problems, (if anyone else has had problems having installed extra burning software, please let me know.)

Please help[/b]

Stupid question, but are you sure your laptop has a DVD burner? Most laptops only have a DVD (player) with CD RW (burner) ... so you can burn a CD, but not a DVD.

First off in some burning applications you have to pick what kind of media you want to burn to first, and if you'd only burned cd's it might be set to that and all you'd have to do is find the dvd option.

What type of dvd burner do you have? I assume a DVD +, correct?

I would check the dvd drives manufacturer's website and see if it lists any common problems, maybe you need new drivers or something? If that comes up with no answers, maybe try Nero if you have not tried that software before.
