Hi there i have fat xbox 360 falcon and every time i turn it on via controller or power button on console the tray opens,When i put a game in and close it about 3 seconds later it opens again and when i turn the console off it opens,I spoofed a benq drive to match the LITEON and it still happens so i'm guessing it's the motherboard can anyone shed some light on this for me please or if someone knows of a fix,Thanks

Its likely a messed up tray status pin. Caused by uing the xbox for power during flashing. Can be fixed by a little soldering.

In the case of a spelling error, I blame Tapatalk.

Also make sure the tray goes all the way back, i had this issues and notice the tray wasn't fully goes back. So i just pushed it in when it fully returned.. it was down to the drive lid had a slight bend which prevented it fully returning.

Thanks for the suggestion; it didn't work for me, but I am still looking into a solution.

I disconnected everything from the motherboard, and turned the Xbox 360 on. The green light (in the centre of the ROL) still flashes even when there is no DVD or its cables connected to the motherboard.

I am going to try the solution from daman10 (bridging the two points). I'll report back and give the result.

This certainly stopped the blinking green LED in the centre of the Ring of Light. I have uploaded some extra pictures to help others find the location of the two points that need to be bridged.

Thank you for the information!

Have you tried taking the dvd drive lid off and trying it that way..? test drive without the lid on, i did suguest that there might be a slight bend in the top lid that will prevent it fully returning a few post back.

This problem came about when I tried playing "Spec Ops - The Line" yesterday. It asked me to perform a system update, and the end result was that I had to complete the update from USB.

After the update, the drive would just keep ejecting.

Well, it's solved now.

I'm glad you mentioned this... although daman10's solution fixed my problem, there was another issue. The drive would never spin up or read discs unless I forced the tray in by pushing it in as it closed.

I took the DVD Drive apart, and ran it without the case and it worked flawlessly.

I cannot figure where the bend in the case is, but at least I have somewhere to start my investigation from.

I only figured it out myself after my son lost his temper and bang the top of his xbox, thats kids for you LoL, after doing alot of searching around forums.. i didn't find anything.. so i just stripped drive down and ran it without the shell, and it worked fine.. so after inpecting the case. i noticed it was a little bent to the top lid not much but it stopped the tray returning fully.

happened with a slim i bought, i googled around and found it was to do with the latch that tells the drive if it is open or close. mine didnt even read discs always just 'opening' 'closing'. there was a guy who posted a fix.

here u go the solution

1) Disassemble your xbox360 (plenty of youtube videos on this)( you will also need a set of star drive wrenches, might be possible to use allen wrenches if the bastards at microsoft havn't stripped your screws when they repaired it the first time, like they did mine)
2) Remove dvd drive. There are 2 cables (power and data) that will need to be disconnected.
3) Remove dvd drive casing (will need a phillips head screwdriver)
4) On the roofing of the dvd casing you should see a tiny magnet (size of a dime), remove the magnet
5) Place Super Glue on the side of the magnet that has the 3 dots.
6) Place the magnet back on top of the dvd motor.
7) Reassemble xbox360.

Had this happen to me after a two weeks use after replacing the PCB for an unlocked one, turned out to be a dry joint on the green wire on the PCB. Re-soldered and solved the tray opening all the time. Hope this can help anyone else with the same problem.
