It is not recommend to ever use the Xbox to power drives to flash them.

Don't do it some other guy on the forums just did it and something caught fire and uber said huge f***ing fail

yes, you will need it to not mess up your southbridge! You could do without it, but it would be risky...

As for the usbpro it is recommended that you have one (eliminates any sata issues). Otherwise a VIA 6421 PCI sata cardwill do.

What exactly are you trying to do..?, Flash your dvd drive or RGH ?, A little more information would be helpful.

To flash the dvd drive, A usbpro, Either a ck3mini or ck3i, Jungleflasher, And alot of reading the jungleflasher tutorial.
There is multiple tutorials on this forum on how to do it, search and read a bit.
As far as Jtag, Only way you're gonna Jtag it if the dashboard version is 7371 or lower. I think you mean RGH, It depends on the motherboard and dashboard version.
You should search the forum abit on this, Probably be a good idea to send it to someone who knows what there doing.

OP - the reason why you're asking for help is because you've not read the available tutorials and stickys.
