E 74 Error Replaces 3RLoD. Is this worse?

I used to get the 3RLoD (3 lights error). Now, I only get the E 74 error. I checked the AV cable and switched it with a new one and I still get the error.

Now that the 3RLoD error code 0102 is gone, does that mean the problem is fixed? Is the E 74 error worse? Any ideas on how to fix this?

it's worse indeed

try the 2 penny fix, but that's probably just a temporary fix (if it works on yours)

I had a terminal xbox I was playing around with. Took the motherboard out of the case, hooked up the video and power cables, gave a small bend or twist to the board while turning it on, and I would get one or three red lights, and once in a while it would boot. Saw a youtube video with an xclamp fix and just by tightening or loosening one screw on the gpu he could make it boot or three red lights.

I searched on the web for information on the E 74 error. Some people have been able to get past the E 74 error by swapping the power supply. Has anyone had any experience with this?

yeh E74 sometimes is related with a power adapter malfunction, but i guess most of the times is a motherboard (probably the HANA chip) problem.

I'm going to swap out the power supply first. If that doesn't work, I'll try the penny trick.

yeh just borrow a power adapter from a friend and keep you fingers crossed.

if it doesn't work, then the 2 penny fix will have to do (won't be a permanent fix i'm afraid)

best of luck, cheers

I tried a new power supply and I still got the E 74 error. Where can I find detailed instructions on how to do the penny trick?

I did some experimentation with removing some of the washers of the x-clamp replacement. I took off one of the washers on the left side of the GPU heatsink. This washer is closest to the left memory card port. I no longer get the one light E 74 error. Now I get the 3RLoD with error code 0020. I used to get the 3RLoD with error code 0102. Am I making progress or is this something worse?

i've heard that the error 0020 is when the nuts are too tight, loosen them a bit. you should do a lot of trial and error, but maybe you can solve that
