Background info.
I'm having serious issues getting my CPU key from my xenon motherboard. I have purchased the Nand-X kit and went for the QSB install... I was using coolshrimps Jtag tool version 3.13.

Here are the steps I took -
1) I read the Nand twice and compared - Recieved 0 non-matching blocks.

2)I installed the QSB's for the xenon Jtag... I have attached some pics. of my install.

3)I then proceeded to write Xell

4)I plugged in my VGA cable and RF module, connected my DVD drive and booted with the eject button. Unfortunately this is where I got stuck :(.... E79 and 1 red light.

Attempted solutions
I came across this tut and after writing XBR still got e79.

I then wrote back my original nand and re-wrote Xell and tried different switch positions on the J2D2 QSB - (still no luck)

I then tried writing Xellous aswell but that still did not do the trick :(

So as a last ditch attempt I went and bought a xenon E79 kit ... Low and behold still E79!!!

I will attach some pics of my second install...

Other useful Info.

I have tested the points for continuity on both sides of the Motherboard and all seems fine.

I have written back the original Nand many a time and the console has booted fine and played games...

I tried booting with the motherboard in the chasis with Xell written and still get E79

I currently have the E79 QSB kit installed with Xell written to the Nand...

Thank you very much for reading and I really would appretiate any help that can be given... I am literaly sick of seeing E79 on my screen:(.

Thank you again. I am determined to make this work!

1. The soldering looks fairly good but did you test with a multimeter the jtag points continuity?

2. Any bad blocks?

ok - rule out the obvious things first.

1. Check continuity between the QSB on J2D2 and J1F1. You won't be able to check the points directly as there are diodes in circuit, so check the points on the QSBs before this point.

2. Check resistance at J2D2.1, J2D2.2 and J2D2.4. All should be 1.5KOhm.

3. Ensure you don't have any solder bridges on the underside of the board. If you add too much solder for instance, you could have it through underneath.

Wow thank you for the hasty replys...

@Manwithoutname
I have checked the continuity with a multimeter and recieved no bad blocks in the nand...

@Martin C
3)I do not have any bridges underneath...

2)I currently have the E79 QSB installed... There is continuity between J2d2 and j1f1

1) I recieved a resistance of 1.5KOhm on J2D2.4 and 1.57KOhm on J2d2.1 and j2d2.2

@flashing360
Lol Yeah I read your thread... We may well be in the same boat

Seeing as Flash and you have the same issue, can I ask what you're using to write XeLL? For instance, have you tried downloading the XeLL release for Xenons from Xbins instead?

Just so you know, the E79 Xenon kit is 3x330Ohm resistors (i.e old method prior to diodes). I've never looked into it before now as I don't have a NAND-X!

Yeah I noticed that soon after buying and studying the layout.... Thanks for confirming that.

If this doesn't work I might just try without the QSB's It'll probably be easier and cleaner and might solve an intermitent problem.

Okay it still has'nt worked - I wrote Xell with NandPro20d (got the latest Xell for Xenon's from Xbins) and E79 popped up to smack me in the face :(

I think it could be mixture of problems: The Jtag tool, QSB's and bad soldering...
After wacking out the magnifying glass and some major inspection I'm not happy with my soldering or the QSB's...

I'm going to redo the whole thing tomorrow and I'm only going to use nandpro...

Thanks alot for your help guys

If worse comes to worse I might have to send it off :(

But I'm determined to get this done and make it work

Once again thank you very much for the support, I'll keep you posted

>>> My install of the E79 kit was pretty awful.... I think I may have damaged a trace while removing the old QSB. (The sticky back scraped some of it off when it was removed) {I hate the QSB's! lol} I'm going to go back to the 'traditional' tried and tested method of soldering directly to the board with wires and diodes... Its my fault for not being very careful- at least I can learn from this.
