E79 on Slim Trinity box without 4Gb module or HD

I removed the 4Gb module because I was at first getting freezes when I started a game which later turned into a E71 error. Now it displays an E79 error without the module or a HD in it. Is this normal, should the box display this in its current state? I was led to believe that an xbox would still boot up and technically work without any kind of storage units in it. I was planning on getting a HD for it but if there's some other error, that would be kind of pointless.

I could use some help with this, I'm a complete and utter noob with about two days of xbox experience.

Right, so let me put it this way; should there be a error message (E79 + red dot) if you start an Xbox slim 4Gb without the 4Gb module?

I... kind of need to know, whether I should toss it and get another box, or just get a hard drive and plug in if that's the reason for the error.

just before all this started was a dashboard update carried out by any chance? if you did an update hold in the controller sync button and keep held and start the console and report back

I think this one's had it. Now it doesn't even produce a picture but I tried your idea anyway, but nothing... I'm tossing it. Thanks anyway.
