hi guys,

i haven't been reading up or keeping up to date with how the xbox slims are flashed, i tried digging through some threads in here and was kinda lost.

now i have a xbox slim 2011-04-11.

what do i exactly need ? in terms of the drive alone, i have all the setup to connecting the drive the ck3, maximus etc. sata via card etc.

i was reading that the pcb board needs replacing ?

i have the latest dashboard.

is this solder free ? cause i cannot solder for 2cents.
cheers.

Well first of all we don't support non TX product. I suggest buying a USB pro v2 with a Molex power supply, spud prob and some reading. For the slim drives u either solder or drill either way. If u look on your chip set on DVD PCB the 2 beginning numbers will either be 03 or 05 the 03 is mxic and the 05 is winbond. The mxic requires cutting a trace and probing or using the switch which requires soldering. The winbond requires drilling into the IC chip to expose the spi line to unlock it ( not a noob mod) we have plenty of tuts so please use the search button. If u would like a pro to do it I am able to perform this for u or there's alot of expert modders here

The absolute easiest way for you is to let someone else do it for you. No im serious.

Or u can buy a tx unlocked PCB from our resellers and to install this is super easy because u can read the key from ur drive without a headache and flash it to the unlocked one and this will make updating super easy. Sorry couldn't edit my previous post because my phone is being a piece of &$$t!!

all good, when i was reading ur first post u got me really lost, cause i done some reading and there is a pcb board which you can replace without solder at all.

but now u mentioned it all good :p

i know how to read, etc very easy, modded alot of consoles, just not slims.

now with the pcb board is it 100% solderless ?

just unplug the ribbons and reconnect the new pcb board and flash firmware onto it ?

with regards to the molex power, i have ck3, isn't the power the same as the old xbox 360 phat drives ?

^^ yes i know, but i prefer to do it on my own if the method does not require solder, since it will be cheaper. i know my way around the xbox slim, iv opened it up before had to fix the dvd drive was making funny sound, iv flashed drives, even replaced lasers. but i cannot solder for crap.

so thats why i wanted to confirm is there really a method to do the slims without solder.

cheers.

x360usb is a must!

u still have to solder to replace the pcb.
You do not need to solder at all for the PCB Replacement. Well at least all the drives I did had no need for any solder. just some screws and wire cutters and strippers. It's quite simple it's all color coated on what wire goes where. Yellow goes to yellow and so on.

Cheaper? No i do not think so,How I charge a one time fee of $40 to flash a slim with lifetime firmware updates.

Martin is right there is plenty of people around to do this for you. Some drives require soldering some don't,that is if you plan on not using the Tx Program control board which still puts your cost well above $40 alone. Then you still need the Usbpro which have come down in price quite a bit.Cheaper i disagree, but if your wanting to learn how to thats different, but from where i sit your at least 1.4 years behind most of here, and may i suggest you keep reading.

I will put it this way there is a hair line between fatal mistake and a good flash with slims, again that is if you plan on not using the TX PCB,which puts your cost well about what any of us skilled modders would charge
ok guys i did some more reading about flashing the xbox slim, doing the pcb change.

now i was looking at this tutorial

now i wanted to ask if i don't have the x360usb pro can i just continue to use the via VT6421 sata card to connect the slim drive like what i use to do with the phat xbox drives ? is the x360usb pro a must ?

i have the ck3 btw.
Get the Via 6421 out of your head,if you plan on slim flashing that isn't going to get you far.
The ck3 is a start, but still not enough.

how come the old phat xbox drives you only needed the VT6421 card, aren't the slim drives the same ?

guess your right guys in terms of getting it flashed by someone else, i don't mind purchasing the equipment to do it myself, as i can flash other consoles,

No the slim drives are not the same as phats in any way!Again, forget the 6421 sata card!It won't work for so many reasons.

You can't put a stick of DDR3 memory in a DDR2 slot on your motherboard, why simply because its incompatible!
Get it the picture?

Again,i suggest you spend time reading, otherwise it would be like giving a monkey a wrench and telling him to go repair the engine.

If i were you i would start with the JF manual then work your way to UrberGeeks tutorials on Team Xecuter's main page, which are drive specific. Also read the info on the Usbpro.

Get your tools from Xconsoles and learn them, know them, make love to them i don't care, but know how they work and what they are meant to do!

If you mention the 6421 sata card again, imma go 3D on you, reach in and give you a nice slap on the back of your head ;) IT WILL NOT SUFFICE!

Lol @ slap across the head, reason why i mentioned the 6421 sata card is iv done some reading and people where able to read the firmware using the 6421 sata card, now not sure if they flashed using it as they didn't mention but they where able to read.

i was looking at the tools on the xconsoles and cannot seem to find the x360usb pro on there site ? iv got a supplier here in Australia where i usually get my mod tools but i found the x360pro usb to be expensive and selling around $80, and yes i know like you mentioned its cheaper to get it done by an expert and pay someone to have it done , but i prefer to do my own console flashing. but i know xconsoles is quite cheaper as i used them before to purchase the ck3 alongside with the probe. any other reliable sites to purchase the tools and have them delivered to Australia cheaper ?
