I have a 1.6 w/ X3CE

I was preparing to upgrade my hdd to larger one...I made all my backups.

When I copied the new eeprom into my admin folder my xbox froze - when I reboot I got nothing.

I have no sound/video/ cannot eject with solid green with chip enabled....
I have no sound/video/ cannot eject with flashing green with chip disabled..

I cannot FTP either

I CAN get to the backup bios(flashbios screen)

Is there hope or is this one headed for the dumpster - or Ebay?

I have another modded xbox I can use to try to fix this one if possible - a v1.1)

PLEASE help me get this going

To upgrade your hard drive you would just backup c: and e: drive of your standard xbox making sure you have it unlocked before you power down and swap it with the new one. Then you just use x3cl to partition and format your new drive and copy c: and e: back over. If you have put your eeprom info in the admin folder you may have overwritten your x3 bios.( I usually just backup the eeprom info to my pc )
Try reflashing your x3 bios from the flashbios screen.

It's not your Flashbios...whats this eeprom you ftp'd to the admin folder?

Thats why your box hangs..you do not need a new eeprom to add a new HDD.
If you have backed up you eeprom can you boot your x3 back to CFL by booting with the white button pressed.

Then you can ftp back the original eeprom.

BTW if you get it all running then do not put 3.03 in the backup ...it will not work on a 1.6

Which bios have you got? and which bank are you trying to boot from?
Also what actually happens when you try to flash your bios, and are you flashing via ftp or disk?

If it is your eeprom thats screwed then...
download these two files and make a directory to unzip them both into, http://arisme.free.fr/Xbox/Reflash/cromwell-patched.zip
http://arisme.free.fr/Xbox/Reflash/addeeprom.zip

put your original eeprom image into this folder too and run the patcher program.

Then set up the switches for a 256k banks (bank 8) boot to your backup flash and flash the resultant .bin file to there.
Reboot and your eeprom should be restored. EEPROM flash - status : SUCCESSFUL

ok got it..
i kept getting access denied on the addeeprom.exe

what you have to do is make a directory in the root of c: (makes it easy to navigate to thru dos prompt i used c:\temp.)
Make a copy of the addeeprom.exe file and put it in this directory (this fixes the file permission problems.

Then put a copy of the extracted cromwell in this directory (rename it to bios.bin) + your x3 eeprom bin file (rename it to eeprom.bin)

Now click start run and type cmd and press enter.

Type cd\temp
now type addeeprom bios.bin eeprom.bin...you should get
Bootloader successfuly patched - happy rescuing :)

flash the bios.bin file to your x3 and voila!!

Phew

OK tried it with no luck...so I tried to reflash X3 back with a new bios....

Still wont boot, but now i get on/off 3 times with FRAG ?! (wtf?)

I found an eeprom chip for a V1.6 for $8, do you think this will fix it when I install it?

My thought is that the M$ bios got wiped out too - which is on the eeprom chip right?

I am almost ready to send this one off ...

Try completely removing the x3 chip and fitting the stock harddrive that came with the xbox originally, to see if you can boot it as a standard xbox. If you can then the eeprom is okay and if you can't then it may be a faulty eeprom and you can look for ways to reflash or replace it.
You need to prove it's the eeprom before you start to remove it.
I can't help but think this may still just be a corupt bios. Have you tried to download it again? Which bios are you trying to use and where did you get it?
Remember that your problems only began after you tried to update your bios in the admin folder with your eeprom data.

I am working with the stock hdd...I never was able to get the new one in.

I got hte bios off of xbins...

That is alot of work desoldering the chip....the LPC board would be a nightmare to remove... but then again I had planned to remove it if I cannot get this one going again to put in the new one I will have to buy.

I have tried to flash the bios about 10 times... with no change...I have tried the flashbios unofficial, this ... http://www.llamma.com/xbox/Repairs/eeprom_fix.htm
and I am running out of things to try.

Where on earth did you get the idea to mess with your eeprom to upgrade HDD's.
