i heard somewhere that there are 3 different kinds of EEPROMs. 1.0, 1.1-1.5, and 1.6. can anyone confirm this? i ask because i'm about to buy a 1.1 mobo and want to be sure i can desolder and use the EEPROM from my 1.4 mobo.

Im confused. Why do you want to desolder your EEPROM and put it in a different xbox.....I am pretty sure that this is unnecessary

i know what he is talking about, i have lotsa experience with this =/ i killed my xbox mobo and my hard drive was locked so I had to move my old xbox eeprom (1.0) into my new xbox (1.4). Yes, there are 2 version of EEPROM as far as I know. There is the v1.0 EEPROM (1.0 xboxes only) and the v1.1 EEPROM (all xboxes 1.1-1.5. I dont know about v1.6 xboxes). Even if you have the wrong version EEPROM, its possible to convert it, but you should be fine. The X3 bios doesn't care what version EEPROM you have, it will boot from either no matter what version xbox. The only problem with the wrong version is when you boot with the modchip disabled, and that can be fixed by using the newest Config Magic to re-write the eeprom.

obviously, but the eeprom.bin is embedded on the chip. i'm assuming that all the chips are the same, so its only the firmware on the various parts of the mobo (i'm not too knowledgeable about motherboards) is what makes certain ones not usable on certain mobos. anyway, i still don't have an answer.

I'm gonna go ahead and assume the reason you want to do this has something to do with a locked hard drive...

That's the only logical reason I can come up with anyway

As for compatibility, I've never played with the EEPROM, but I'm sure searching around xbox-scene might yield something.

EDIT:
Perhaps this is what you're looking for:

well, i answered the question with my other account, but since these forums are gay, you cant see the answer to your question... it took me so long to type that last responce explaining exactly what you need to do to transplant EEPROM chips that I dont feel like typing it again, sorry. Im sure xecuter will eventully fix my main account =/
