Hi fellas,

I am getting an error 06 when I boot now.

I am certain is because I dumped a new eeprom onto the ADMIN file on the harddrive. The only problem is I forgot to change the HDD code to the one I currently have. So, Has anyone encountered this error, and can I fix it?

Is this a chip thing? Or do I have to get into the harddrive somehow and reset the eeprom? I'm lost and pretty pissed.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Ouch...

If you do not have the files backuped somewhere, then you are out a hard drive.

The only other way to unlock it is if you used Config Magic, etc. to lock it.

If you just used the X3 Config Live, I'm sorry.

Dang! Are you positive? I do have the eeprom backed up on my PC, but how do I access the hard drive to change it?

Also, I bought it at circuit city this weekend, could I just bring it back and get another one? Gotta love the big store exchange policies.

Thanks for your help.

If you look in your backed-up files, look for x3data.txt or EEPROMBackup.txt

Either of these files (granted you copied them AFTER you installed the new drive) contain the HDD lock / unlock code

Otherwise, I would take your other method there. Just tell Circuit City that the manufacturer worked with you over the phone and suggested that you return your drive for a replacement.

Good luck

Does anyone else have any ideas?

I am thinking I will find an unlocked HDD, attach it, and re-flash the unlock code HDD code for the old HDD. Any thoughts?

When you get the error 6 HDD locked error, can you boot into config live at all?
If you can, you can FTP into your box and upload the old eeprom.

No, the drive is locked so I can't get to config. live.
Sounds like your best bet is to take it back or try to get into it with config magic.

Will x3 cl kick in if i hook up an unlocked hardrive? That way I could reflash the eeprom with the correct data? Does that make sense. That way I can just re-install the lcoked hdd and the settings will be correct?

In other words, if I do take back the hdd and replace it, will i be able to access that one (I guess they come unlocked huh)? I'm not sure how the eeprom stuff works.

If anyone is reading this post, I took back my HDD and will be getting a new one soon.

Then I should just be able to install and run X# BIOS to install new partition right? I will have to dump all the old files from my stock drive onto the new one...I assume.

This should work right?

Load the new BIOS onto your chip. FTP your entire stock hard drive to you computer for backup. Install the new hard drive and format and partition with the x3 tool. FTP the backup files back to the new hard drive in the correct partitions. IMPORTANT: One of the first things you should do next is backup the XBOX BIOS to the X3. Post if you need additional help.

I'm actually trying to fix a bad eeprom dump. Do you know much about eeprom changing on the x3? I bought an unbanned eeprom last night and ftp'd it to the admin file on the hard drive. This totally f'd things up and I was unable to boot at all. Error code 6. So, I installed a new hardrive and it looks like things may be ok now. I have yet to lock the hd for fear of what happened last night, but I will give it a shot.

Any suggestions?

SAVE THE XBOX EEPROM TO THE X3 BEFORE LOCKING. DONT F WITH THE ADMIN DIR. JUST SAVE THE XBOX EEPROM TO THE X3 AND YOU SHOULD BE FINE TO LOCK AND UNLOCK NOW.

That's what I did. I actually F'd with the admin eeprom last time which is what got me in trouble. This time I just installed the new hdd and saved eeprom to x3. It works fine now (live enabled).

Thanks for the info.
