hi im a beginner shall we say and have just successfully flashed my hitatchi 360 drive with the latest firmware. iv just read about these efuses which microsoft are using to brick 360 consoles and am just wondering..do i need to de-solder this efuse or not? because i certainly dont want microsoft bricking my console! also there is an update scheduled for today, does anyone know what its for and if it will ban us from xbox live or at worst brick our console?

many thanks

Brick your console? What article are you reading? lol

They blew an efuse to prevent you from being able to downgrade your system firmware in the future, that's it. If you already applied the January update then it's too late for that one but you could still de-solder the resistor to prevent them from being able to blow a different fuse in the future for whatever reason. Textbook has a post on the main page about this...

And before you ask, there are thousands of microscopic efuses in the actual cpu of your system. You can't replace / repair them. And like bigd23 said, it does not affect the firmware hacks.

The only reason to downgrade would be if you wanted to run homebrew code such as emulators in the future. However, as Textbook points out on the main page, you can't use Live if you downgrade since it requires the newest firmware and you wouldn't be able to play alot of new games since they also force an update before you can play them. For those reasons most people would not be interested in downgrading anyway.
