You don't.

Bottom line from someone who broke a mobo and had to find a way to unlock his 160 Gig.

You need your EEPROM.bin file from the original Mobo.
You need Team Assembly's "liveinfo" program
You need to stick your HD in a PC
The lifeinfo program + your EEPROM.bin will give you your HD Password.
(some have said they get a working password without the EEPROM.bin, but I have a hard time believing that)

Next you Need to boot to DOS and use either atapwd or (hdunlock and hddisabl) to unlock the drive.

After all that it's good to go again.

I know of no other way except to hire a data recovery firm who will undoubtedly dharge you the cost of the drive to unlock it.

How do you go about retrieving a backup off the x3 chip????

I am in the same situation with a WD 200g drive.
