Yes I am new to all of this and yes i have messed up but if you dont mind giving me a hand it would be much appreciated.

I have backed up my C and E drive before i messed up so I have it all saved up on my pc hard drive. If it helps, i know exactly what Ive done wrong. When I clicked on my C drive i have 5 folders (through ftp)

Audio
f0nts
fonts
xboxdashdata.185EAD00
xodash

and then i have two xbe files

Dash_original.xbe
xboxdash.xbe

My goal was to get the xbox to load up XBMC as the dash and first of all i copied the XBMC.xbe file from my e drive over to my C drive and i called the XBMC.xbe dash Dash_original.xbe so it would override the original Dash_original.xbe

At this point when i turned on the xbox it still loaded up into Unleashx but when i scrolled through the unleashx menu and selected to go to the origninal dash it opened the XBMC dash so i thought that i had overridden the wrong xbe file in c. so the next thing i did was replace the Dash_original.xbe with the original file and then transfered the XBMC.xbe as xboxdash.xbe (to replace the other xbe file) and it was at this point it all went wrong. When i rebooted I got error 13, I know that i only have to replace the original xboxdash.xbe back and all will be back to normal.

The main problem that I have is that my xbox was modded by a guy in France so I cant find out what chip it has and i have no idea what he has done to the bios. I am just lost and I am kicking myself because of what I have done.

I have the iso file for slayer 2.6 full but my xbox wont pick it up on any media cd-r, cd-rw, dvd+r or dvd-r. I know my xbox definatley used to pick up dvd-r and dvd+r but wont now so im guessing its not the media anymore (sometimes with the disc in i get error 14 instead of error 13)

is there anything i can do to the slayers iso file to maybe change the name of a certain file?? so it will boot and if so how can i do this?
I just dont know what to do now and I understand that people who know about this sort of stuff get annoyed with guys like me who are doing stupid things like ive done without checking it out properly.

I really hope you can suggest something for me to do to try and fix this, if worse comes to worse, can i just start from scratch and flash the bios again.

Looking forward to some advice.

I am using Nero 6 and I am burning image, i am selecting the slayers iso file. i selected dvd, i selected the finalise option and it is automatically selected the disk-at-once

then i burn it and do what it says on the slayers manual which is t put it back in the pc to check the file, well my pc cant rea the file so that means its burned on there properly (i think)

i put the disc in the xbox and it still loads up error 13 page, over and over again.

i got project gotham racing 2, how do i access the dashupdate so i can gain ftp access again? anyone know? should i do this or not?

any help please!!

There's where you're going wrong. This is NOT how to burn an ISO Image file to CD or DVD.

There are loads of posts on how to do this. You simply select Recorder in Nero and click on 'Burn Image'.

Ok i have been burning images for over a year and I have never had a problem before. I open Nero 6 and in the dvd tab i select 'Burn Image to disc'. I then select the iso file for slayers and it burns. I am not burning the iso as data if that is what you think. I'll have a read about burning iso files and inparticular the slayers iso but im 99.9% sure im doing it the right way. If you still think that Im doing it incorrectly then please let me know.

Cheers

ok - I misread the initial post, sorry!

Yes it looks as if you're burning it correctly. If you're getting error 13 it's not able to read the xboxdash.xbe file at all.

Are you even able to boot an original game?

yep, all original games boot fine but the slayers disc wont boot at all, i even went out to buy better disc today as i thought it may have been the media but it still wont work, its doing my head in. I just dont know what to do.

do u know anything about auto installer deluxe 2.11 - is it worth giving it a go?

what about hot swapping? people recomend it but i dont feel too confident about opening up the xbox.

the guy who modded my xbox is from france and i just dont know what chip is in it and i dont know what he has done.

any advice would be appreciated - how come my xbox wont read this disc which everyone says is so good.

is there any way (by looking through my backed up files on c and e drive) that i can edit the slayers disc so that the xbox will pick it up. some other guy i been speaking to thinks that maybe my bios has been setup to read something other than default.xbe but i dont know

cheers

Maybe your dvd drive just won't read those discs... what type drive? what type disc are you burning to?

The original ms dash is called xboxdash.xbe...this is what the bios will load by default...slayers will rename this to dash_original.xbe, so you did replace the wrong file at first...

What dash did the xbox boot to originally? Do you know where that dash is stored on the drive...? (this will tell you where the bios is set to boot from, could be anywhere...)...

XBMC needs the "xboxmediacenter.xml" file configured to point it to the "home" directory.
So, in order for it to work from the c drive, while the other XBMC files are, say, on F, you will need to edit the config file... (it's the first tag - home) <home>F:\dashboards\xbmc\</home>

I don't believe slayers has a filemanager... I'd burn another dash to disc (one with a filemanager). This will let you fix your problem without messing everything else... (unless you plan to ftp). In other words try burning something else with ftp power.
