Error 21 to Error 16: The Journey to NTSC

Once upon a time, I was casually exploring XBMP and I accidentally set the 'Video Region' to Pal. This is where my XBOX adventure begins:

To my disgust, this halted Xecuter 3 from loading all the way into the BIOs setting where I could attempt to reset the video back to NTSC. So, I booted to the original MSDashboard, only to be welcomed by an Error code 21. Hm.

I tried holding the white button upon reboot. Nope. Nothing. X3 Bios simply hangs at the start up screen.

I held down the left trigger + X button for NTSC. Nothing again. By this time, I was feeling a little helpless, and quite angry as well. But I was compelled to go on.

'Fine', I thought, So I confidently inserted my Video Selector disk and noticed that the DVD had lost functionality! All my disks worked before. So it's not the disks.

'Ok, f*k this, let's just get a new HD', I thought. Stupidly, I removed the drive, and took it out of the XBOX without backing up the EEprom, nor my C: drive, and neither did I write down my hard disk's lock key. I had planned to transfer the contents of the C: drive to a brand, spanking new hard disk at a PC shop, but now I didn't have the access codes to even unlock the darn thing. The shop workers assumed my disk was fragged. Later, I realized that the hard disk's file system was in FATx--which is unreadable to the PC. However, by this time, I had already tossed in a garbage bin.

Well, now I had this new, Western Digital, 120 gig hard disk and I managed to copy the contents of the C: folder from Slayer auto-installer on to a newly created C: partition drive. I formatted this partition with FAT32. (please, someone tell me whether this is wrong or right). I thought perhaps the original files would reset the system back to its original state.

Now, X3 bios still doesn't load up and I have a new error code--the irrepressible Error code 16. This means there's a dashboard reading error. The XBOX I know, needs to reset my clock, so it must open the dashboard to access the menu system. My frustration was replaced by befuddlement, because I have a xboxdash.xbe file on the C: drive and all related XBOX files from Slayer Auto-Installer.

So, dear readers, what do I do next? Do I reflash my EEProm? How do I do that? How can I set my clock when I can't get my dashboard to come up? My objective is only to get NTSC back, believe it or not.

Thanks, guys. Sorry for this long winded post. Besides being a complete doorknob for not backing up my HD, I didn't want to give the impression I didn't do a bit of research first before posting this.

Sounds more like the production of a Novel by your selection of first person quotes.

yeah, I was really, really bored.

Well, to get back to my XBOX, I think I'll try resetting the clock by borrowing someones disk and inserting it into my XBOX. Perhaps, that might work. I'd like to see a happy ending to this novel.

Back to Error 21

Putting a hard disk from another XBOX didn't work. I'm now back to Error 21.

Error 21 apparently means there's an error flag being sent to the XBOX and it is displayed first and stops any further progress.

Now, I'm not clear on something here--Where is the flag saved and what executes it? Is it the EEProm on the XBOX or the EEProm on the Xecuter3?

Thanks.

Journey Ends

Hi, Folks:

In case people are still reading this thread, I managed to fix my XBOX.

I had an Eeprom error, and what I needed to do was reflash it with the correct XBox Eeprom version (mine was 1.4) Here's the link where I found for more details:

http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=330006&pid=2368468&st=30&#entry2368468

Basically, flash the XBOX with FlashBIOs 3.0.3 'unauthorized'. If you had a video scroll problem like me, you'll have difficulty reading the 'flash eeprom' options that are carefully tucked below the 'Lock Hard Disk' menu category. I would suggest you thumbstick all the way down to the bottom of the menu, and take a picture of if with a digital camera, while moving the camera vertically down the screen at the same rate as the scrolling. this should take a relatively good image of the menu screen.

WARNING!

Before you Flash the Eeprom, you MUST unlock your disk first! Security measures built into the eeproms prevent locked disks to be unlocked by another XBOX!

There's tons of information on it here in the forums under the search word, 'error 7' (that's the error code you get if you make this very bad mistake) It will make your disk inoperable.

Good luck all. Your XBOX is not dead yet!
