Okay I know what error 6 means. This is my problem...

I fried my original xbox motherboard, well I didnt but it was fried none the less. So I managed to get another xbox 1.0 motherboard to replace mine with. Its installed and I put my x3 in it. The problem is I get error 6 when I boot with the mod on or off, except to the backup bios. The hard drive was locked on my original xbox mobo which is now toast... I assume I need to unlock my hard drive so I can use it on this xbox, then relock it with the new serial number. What can I do...

in the backup try reflashing the x3 bios then use that to unlock the hard drive

I already tried that. It seems to successfully reflash, but when it boots, it shows the Flubber, the Xbox logo then it goes to error 6. When you reflash does it turn off automatically when it finishes?

Regardless though, when it uses the backup bios it gives me a hard drive error too, and it wont unlock in the backup bios either.

Ok, I think I might have found a solution. I was having the same problem. What I did was unplug the IDE cable to the hard drive and let the box boot up, then it came up with the Error 7. I then plugged the drive back in and restarted the box. It booted up fine and went to the M$ dashboard. Now I just have to cross my fingers to see if it keeps on living.. Hope that helps you! YAY! My Box LIVES AGAIN!! :D

Back to Modding, clarify something for me?

I modded my xbox back in the day, when it was neccesary to purchase a pci sata card and flash the firmware in a dos like creation with sophisticated dvd drive codes..

I've yet to have done it again and I'm wondering if it's still the same, there is an abundance of tutorials on these forums and I'm not sure which is the best route.

I've also noticed that there is a lot more homebrew discussion on this forum, and even the mention of playing backups off of an HDD...

Is this common practice? I'm really just looking to play backups whatever way possible, the safest way that is. I don't expect to have a long xbox live lifetime but I plan to just re-purchase a console and re-mod it when needed.

Thanks guys!

You're going to want to use Jungleflasher.. Go to the jungleflasher website, download the tutorial.. It's crystal clear and very simple.
