i've been reading numerous guides for the last few days, but settled with using the "Hacking the xbox 360 for dummies" pdf.

problem so far....

the 360 i have has a samsung ms25 with extreme 5.2 firmware. a recent update caused the error66 to be displayed. I believe the drive needs to be spoofed.

what i have done....

purchased a via vt6241 pci card & installed to pc. ran xbins to grab the latest firmware. installed xtremebootmaker 0.3.6 & followed the guide on how to make a bootable floppy.

booted from the floppy & ran "SAMREAD **withmyserialno**".

i then ran "SAMHACK **withmyselialno**" and it stated there was no hacked firmware.

according to the guide X360SAM creates the new hacked firmware.

so i copied my original & hacked backed up firmware which was supplied with my pre modded 360 into the folder on my floppy & re-ran the SAMHACK. this then flashed the drive & reported success.

when i now turn on my 360 i get the same error66 displayed.

where am i going wrong? it's taken me all day to get this far.... hehehe.

Ok, by dumping your firmware and reflashing it, you havent changed anything. The firmware on your drive is reporting as ms28 firmware, when you infact have a ms25. By dumping the firmware, x360sam just copies your version strings from your dump (which are ms28) and patches them into the new hacked firmware. Then, when you run samhack, it flashes the hacked firmware. So, you had ms28 firmware and you flashed it back with ms28 firmware.

Here is what you do. In whatever directory you are running the samread/samhack batch files from, there is a directory within that called backup\1234567\12345, which 1234567 12345 representing the serial number you entered. In that directory, there should be hacked.bin and orig.bin.

So, in the Xtreme 5.2 firmware package, there should be a firmware called x52-ms25.bin. Copy this file to your directory containing hacked/orig.bin. Then, download samtool, found here.

Extract the archive into the directory with hacked/orig/x52-ms25.bin. Delete hacked.bin. Rename x52-ms25.bin to hacked.bin. Then, open a command prompt window within windows, and goto the directory that now contains samtool.exe, orig.bin, and hacked.bin (previously known as x52-ms25.bin). Then, type the following:

samtool orig.bin hacked.bin

This will then display and copy your key from your orig.bin to your hacked.bin. It will also display the version which each firmware is reporting as. When you get prompted to copy the version strings from orig.bin to hacked.bin, press 'N'. The program should complete and say that hacked.bin is ready to be flashed.

So, now, reboot to dos and rerun samhack the way you had previously. THis will flash xtreme firmware to your drive with your drive key in it and ms25 version strings.

Hope this helps,

Caster.

Ahh, the dreaded runtime error. Do you have it imbeded in any directories with more than 8 characters? Try copying orig.bin, hacked.bin, and samtool.exe to c:\ and run it again. Then, once it completes, copy hacked.bin back to your floppy and overwrite the one currently there.

Hmmm... something is not right. I have never recieved an error with samtool except for the directory structure, which was pointed out to me a long time ago.

Check your PM.

You can also open your orig.bin in 360 Firmware toolbox and it should display your key. Select it, and copy. Then open hacked.bin with 360 firmware, and it should show the key as 32 zero's. Paste your copied key from your orig.bin and inject the key.

Or, you could try booting to dos using your floppy and running samtool from dos and not a windows cmd window.

Then run samhack again.

Please do email me your orig.bin. I am curious if its an error with my program or if its just something with your system.
