Error 9 Question

Ok
I have a 1.4 xbox with an X3 1959 bios,200 gig maxtor HD.Everything runs sweet no problems exept for about 3 times i have gotten an error 9 code,I reboot and boots up normally with no error.So my question is should I worry about this,what migth be the cause.Has this happened to anybody else,if so could you shed some ligth as to what migth be the cause.

Thats kinda weird. Since it does it sporadically. You can look up the codes but I wouldnt worry about it right now. Check to see if your drive is locked and if not then lock it.

Thanks for the input,I checked out the error code and it says its a hdd error.And my hdd is locked too,still kinda weird do. 8)

Try replacing the IDE cable see what happens then
I had the same problem and noticed the IDE cable in the Xbox was slightly sniped on one side!
replaced it and never seen the error since!

I just flashed my Hitachi 79 and burned my first game(Skate 3) to give it a try.

When I play the game, it works for anywhere between like 2 and 10 minutes before giving me the "This disc is unreadable" error.

Still works great with original games.

All I have right now is some leftover Sony DL discs, and I know I should invest in some Verbatims, but I burned Skate3 on the Sonys.

My xbox is over a year old, should I consider replacing the laser? Or the drive? Or should I just see if the Verbatims do the trick?
Or anything else? ha?

Ahhhh I just saw that about 5 minutes ago. my bad. I'll keep that stuff outta here from now on.

Thanks for the reply though! If that doesn't work what would you suggest next? Is it worth just trying a new laser or is a new drive my best bet?

pot tweak before laser replacement! but i think you'll find trying verbs will do the trick

you could also try installing the game to your hard drive.

yeh my backup copy of MW2 has this problem sometimes even tho my original copy works no problem and as MrPete1985 mentioned, i've installed it to my xbox hdd and it works no bother as it only uses the disc to find the security sector.

Tho on the same topic any of you know why my backup copy of Red Dead Redemption would suddenly revert back to the dashboard half way through a mission and not give me any sort of reason why it did so???

That RDR problem is strange, I installed mine to the HD didn't give me any problems while playing from disc but I could hear the laser loading a lot so I did it mostly to lengthen the life of my drive.

Yeh i've done the same as like you mentioned the amount of loading and noise the drive was making wasnt good. Game runs fine now, tho i find it strange that the day it was released here there was already an update for it, game is glitchy and buggy as hell.

Well when I stand my xbox on end it works great! Played for a couple hours with no problem.

Another question. As far as installing to the hard drive goes, where would I find a good tut for that? Several popped up when I googled, but everyone on here has helped a crap load so if someone has a suggestion I'd trust it more hah.

Installing it to hard drive, when you stick the disk in your 360 and its loaded instead of pressing A to load the disc press Y instead and then press A on Install to Hard Drive. Your 360 will do the rest.

One more question regarding that! (possibly another stupid question...)
I haven't done it yet, but once you install to the hard drive, do you still need the game in the drive to play it even though it primarily reads from the hard drive?

Cause otherwise what stops people from renting a game for a couple bucks and just putting it on the hard drive?

yeh you still need the disc because when you first click to load the game it'll spin the disc to check the security sectors and then it'll load from hard drive.
