I finally got my X3 in the mail and tried installing it on my v1.6 motherboard but messed up the initial installion. I ripped up a trace and fragged the motherboard.
So i got on line and got another v1.6 mother board and installed the x3 on the new motherboard with out any hitches. I assemble the Xbox back together and i get where i can flash my X3. I flash it with the X3_19591.6 bois and i reboot. It starts up with the Xbox logo, but then says "Opps, somethings wrong... error code 6"
Thats the error code for cant detect the hard drive. I have checked the HDD a ton of times to make sure that the thing was connected correctly, which it is. i tried locking and unlocking the HDD but it doenst work. i cant even get to X3CL to throw a dash on the Xbox. Any suggestions???

If the old motherboard is toast, then throw away the HDD too.

Error 06 is there because it needs the original EEPROM data to unlock it. That information is on your old motherboard.

Your best option here is to buy a new HDD and fit it. You'll need the MS dashboard files too, so download Slayers 2.6 in preparation.

So you have a method to bypass the ATA security feature in hard drives??

Maybe you should let people know as there are some pretty big incentives being offered by groups who have been trying for years..

Uh, how did you lock the 200 gig drive on your old motherboard if you trashed the install before you got it up and running? And if you had it up and running, why/how did you trash the install?

First let me assure you there was a whole lot of stupidity from my part. This is first time I bought a XBOX let alone the fact that never have soldered small electronic components.

I got the XBOX up and running except that I managed to screw up the audio some how when I was trying install the 5v power supply. Couldn't fix the problem. Found a xbox used motherboard on ebay and installed it which works fine. I didn't know that I have to unlock the hdd when I was doing it, but anyways when I was stripping the pin header of the old motherboard I managed to mess the LPC, which is in a bad condition right now. I am not sure if it is retrivable, but am going to give it a try. But I finally got the xbox working condition. sure, I am pissed off at my carelessness but I guess we learn from our mistakes. Hopefully I can get my old MB working just enough to get the HD unlocked, just am looking for alternate solution. michael816, I will give you the HD if I can't find a solution, will let you know.

If you locked it with ConfigMagic, then you can unlock it on your PC.

If you can get your old motherboard working in as much as you get a FlashBIOS screen on the X3, you can just select 'unlock hdd' and you'll be done.

As long as you still have the old mb, it can be recovered. I wouldn't suggest trying it yourself, but here is the info (about half way down the page)

http://www.xboxrepairguide.com/solder_source/de_soldering.htm
You can replace your eeprom chip with the one from your dead motherboard.

A much better idea is sending the stuff to the guy who hosts the site and he will unlock your hd. I think he charges ~50$ according to the website.

http://www.xboxrepairguide.com/index.php/cPath/34

This stuf is of course only a last resourt. I would defiantly listen to martin c and try to get the mb up and running first.

What Xbox did you use to lock the HDD? Did you change the EEPROM on this HDD?

It needs to be unlocked on the original Xbox before you can use it anywhere else.
