LITEON 0225 Error: Required storage device has been removed

I updated to the latest Microsoft FW and then flashed an Xbox Lite-on 0225 in a Slim. I used X360USB PRO, a CK3 mini, and Replacement PCB Board, using Jungle Flasher.

Everything seemed to work fine and I am able to load up games I backed up that I had for my other console. When I try to load up a DVD though it gives an error "A required storage device has been removed. Your console will now restart."

I've searched the forums and the internet and I've already tried:

-clearing the system cache
-trying different Factory DVD's
-Backed up games DO work (verbatim, using Lite-on iHas124 B)
-Plugging in a 8 GB Formatted USB Flash Drive

This xbox is a slim and doesn't have a HD fitted to it(not sure if it once did). I've plugged in a formatted 8 GB USB Flash Drive I used successfully on an Arcade Edition Phat but continue to get the error at different points of the movie (normally within a few seconds/minutes).

I don't think this is a bad flash, bad parts, etc.... What could this be from?

NOTE: Sorry if this is in the wrong place. Also, I did search numerous times and was surprised not to find anything on this in the forum...

NOTE: Just came across a few more of these issues posted on the Xbox Support thread. It appears to be a common issue with Slims possibly. One poster commented that hitting any button on the controller seems to fix the issue and let the DVD play. As strange as this sounds, it does seem to work???? I wasn't getting farther than a min before but after trying this I've gotten into the second chapter two times in a row. Ironically not hitting the button still gives the error message. Really weird and confusing...

Still would like to hear what everyone thinks about this and if there is anything I can do, or if it could be related in anyway to the FW.

I don't believe this is a firmware issue becasue the firmware only deals with the dvd drive itself. If the xbox reads dvds then the firmware and the hardware are working correctly. Are you connected to live when you play them? Its probably not the problem but do you have the optional media update? i would delete all the update stuff from whatever drive you have them on and save it all to the 4gb built in and see what that does.

No, I haven't connected it to Live yet (was wanting to make sure everything is "all set" first). I agree, it doesn't seem like a FW issue to me and some quick Google searches show this must be a fairly wide spread issue with the 4 GB slims. I don't believe this was an issue before Flashing on this particular machine. That said, I'd still like to fix it.

Before flashing and replacing the PCB Board I updated to latest FW (This should bring me up to date with everything correct?). Are you suggesting I reflash to stock and then run the update again, then reflash again? Can you be a little more descriptive of what you mean by "delete all the update stuff move all to the 4 gb built in and see what that does"? I should note that I only plugged int he 8 GB USB Flash Drive temporary to see if that corrected the issue for any reason. Other than that it's not been plugged in.

UPDATE: I have found that clearing the system cache will normally fix the issue, though it may take 2-3 times, or more first. Once it plays a DVD I can turn the console off, load different DVD's, etc... and it doesn't give the error. The error only seems to occur when I put in a game then switch back to a DVD. Seems very strange to me.

When you browse to the storage device in the memory settings is there any update files or other files besides save, themes, avatar, etc? I would use the 8gb flashdrive you have and configure it as an xbox memory unit and put all of your saves and other files you want to keep and format the internal 4gb unit. I'm assuming your lt3.0 so after you format the 4gb internal I would connect to live and take any updates if neccessary then try to play a dvd. If other people are having the same problem with stock fw on microsoft forums and what not I can't see how possibly it is fw issue.

Again, I don't think it's really a FW issue. I just don't understand why I'm having the issue now and didn't have the issue before (though I only tested it briefly before). Could something have happened while taking it apart (if so, I would think I would find a ton more info on here) Should I request a mod to move the thread to another Sub-Forum?

I show the following on memory:

Games and Apps: 170 MB
Gamer Profiles: 6 MB
Gamer Pictures: 588 KB
Avatar Items: 298 KB

I'm going to try to reformat the drive. I was also wondering what restoring to factory settings would do? What exactly does this erase? If I done this while I had all game saves, etc..., on the USB drive would I lose anything if I replaced those?

I will also connect it to Live, but if there is an update I'm going to reflash to stock first. Thanks for the reply. It's a frustrating issue because on most of the Microsoft Forums either clearing the system cache worked, or a Microsoft rep told them to take the machine back in as a defective device because of the Internal Memory (I just don't think it's a defective device). I'll update soon.

Ok, so I swapped everything to a USB Flash Drive and then unplugged the Flash Drive. I formatted the 4 GB Internal Memory. The first time I tried to reformatt the Internal Memory I received the same error?? I tried again and it reformatted....

I've done some brief testing and so far ERROR FREE! I've loaded up a few DVD's and a few Games and back and forth and have not received the error yet!

My next question is, how can I determine which file got corrupted? I'd like to load the data back on the Internal Memory, since it's not my machine. Is there a way to chase down which file/files became corrupt?

Is it possible the actual Internal Memory has become corrupt? I tried again to reformatt the Internal Memory just to see if I could replicate the error I received the first time I retried to reformat it and I did get the error again.

Something must have gone corrupt on the 4gb internal. I don't know what it possibly could be but none of files that were on there that you listed above could have caused it because they all deal with games and avatar items. Once you have it error free after you format it just copy all of your files back and it should be fine. You are right though it could be the memory card has become corrupted. When you play dvds the xbox saves a bookmark file to keep where you left off and if there is no memory to save too it will give you that error so if it was corrupt and the xbox wouldn't recognize it then it would give you the error. Again I would just get it to a working state with all your files and just not worry what happend unless it happens again.
