evolutionx and 2.6 ce install (quick answer)

hi fellas. ok this question will take nomore than 5 seconds to reply for the seasoned xbox geek (whatever). however i've been looking around and i can't really find a clear answer. so here i go...
i'm planning on installing a 2.6 ce on my 1.4 xbox. only that , no hdd update or anythting. after i flash my chip with the proper bios do i need to do anythting else to start playing right away (my backups that is)? do i need evolutionx or something else?
like i said i only want to install the chip.

after you flash your chip with the proper bios you CAN start playing back up copies of your games; however, if you dont put evolution-x or some other dashboard on your xbox you will not be able to FTP your xbox with your computer to make your own backups of your games.

My plan was exactly like yours. I wanted to only get the chip and bios on so i could play games i backed up on my friends xbox.

But after i got the chip working I realised the need for a dashboard very quickly. I installed that and guess what...it came very clear that I would like to be able to play my games without getting up, changing DVD's and so I installed a bigger harddrive because the 8 GB I had was not enough.

But it is all so simple thanks to all the good tools out there, so basically if you got a bigger HDD that you don't use put it in and you won't regret it.
