Evox Problems

Okay now we have a real problem....my evox dashboard is not even coming up anymore, like a dummy I wrote over the disc thinking that i didn't need it anymore because i backed it up. Now the pink "EVO X" in the regular boot up is not coming up. I tried to make another disc exactly like the old one but it won't read it. My chip is turned on, but there's no sign of evox anywhere, its like the chip doesn't even exist. Will someone please help me out, i know i'm new but i'm about ready to throw it out the window, its been such a pain..........i bet there is some easy explination to this i just don't understand, i just want it to work *the chip*. My flash bios in bank 1 isn't even coming up anymore. Someone please help?

which chip have you installed?
what box version do you have?
how did you install the chip?
which bios did you flashed or have tried to flash?

your D0 connection may not be good

For those that don't know D0 is used to switch between your Xbox bios and modchip bios - sending a ground signal to the D0 line forces the Xbox to boot from the LPC port, when a ground signal is not sent then your Xbox boots as if there is no modchip; all enable/disable functions are performed by the modchip of course.

it worked perfectly for the last 5 months...and i wanted avalaunch to be the default dash...a friend told me to rename xecuterdash.xbe to xectuetdash2.xbe...so i did....and now when i turn it on, it goes right to MS dash. My other bank Frags. And my flashbios screen dosnt work.

or 2 x 512 =1mg anyway, start over take your time, and read, read AND THEN READ IT AGAIN before you post becuase you cant figure it out

you shouldn't have to rename anything

i'm not sure which bios you're using but if you wanted avalaunch as your default dash then you may be able to edit the bios so that avalaunch.xbe is your primary dash

This is the second time I have seen you post this. What are you talking about? The version of the Xbox does not change the bios size on the chip. Every 2.6, or 2.3 for that matter has two 512k banks. There is absolutely no need for a 1 meg bios.

i really need help

i have read all i can on how to install a dashboard but cant seem to figure it out. this is the first time i ever done this. i followed all the tuts on installing the chip and i think i got all right because when i turn on my box the pink evox triangle comes out on the top corner. but when it comes down to installing the dashboard i just cant figure it out. i tried making a disc but the box wont read it. can someone please help me with this. i really appreciate it

mmm i had same problem with my xbox dvd drive not reading the discs that i burnt,the solution was simple remove the xbox cover and then remove the ide cable from the xbox dvd ,open pc and remove the ide cable from the pc dvd/cd drive put the xbox next to pc and plug the xbox ide cable into the pc dvd drive.

so now your xbox is connected to the pc dvd drive,leave the yellow wires in the stock xbox dvd put an original game dvd in xbox drive mine needed this to work yours might not(the game disc)

put the cd you want to boot on xbox in pc drive if its burnt right the pc drive will read it

now reboot your xbox and lo and behold all those coasters you had lying around are working if you burnt em correctly


the major problem i had was that the xbox dvd wasnt reading the cdr media that i was using but this is a simple solution worked for me every time i got stuck with not being able to boot the cd that i burnt


try using slayers 2.6 to fix your problem

What media are you using I have found that either a NEW cd-rw or a dvd -r or even a dvd-rw works great depending on your dive also make sure to set the settings in nero like the tut says best I remember its disc-at-once.

p.s had problem with my bios disc not being read and same problem when i upgraded to larger hard drive xbox would not read slayers 2.6 disc

i would recommend slayers 2.6 u can rebiuld all m$ files on c drive and boot to evox dash from cd even if hard drive is empty gr8 prog if u buggered something up on the drive or wanna new hard drive would also reccomend autoinstaller deluxe v2.0 with these 2 discs u can install just about everything and rebiuld a drive from scratch easily

Your PC can read them because you have burnt them incorrectly!!! A pc cannot read a correctly burnt xbox disc, i may have read this wrong but why would a load of coasters suddenly work just because you plugged your dvd drive into your pc!!! When you plug your xbox dvd drive into the motherboard you will have the same problem!!!


To make yourself an xbox compatible disc:

You need to get yourself Nero,
Build a DVD-ROM (UDF) ISO, usually the last in the list as you scroll down choosing which type of disc you want to burn.

On the UDF tab, select the check box which says something along the lines of "Force Video Compatibility required for XBOX"

Ensure the .xbe file is named default.xbe and is in the root of the disc.

Make sure your ini file is set up correctly.

Follow the tut on installing evox on www.xbox-scene.com it is flawless, if i can do it so can you!!!

Slayers are not the answer to everything, it is important to try and back up the C & E drive of your xbox before you start pissing around with the hdd files / changing the dash etc which cannot be done with a slayers disc!!!

At the end of the day if you can't get a bog standard evox boot disc to work, what chances are there that you are gonna be able to make a slayers disc work.

now that youve had your rant mattydread

actually the cd's in were burnt correctly ,the xbox dvd drive does not recognise the media that i was using which was cd-r and the solution to the problem was hooking up the pc dvd rom rather than go out and by different media which may or may not work,you just dont know till you try.

the solution which i posted is a common trick known as a hot swop.

I am aware of the countless tutorials on burning xbox media just like the other 99.9% of people who take the time to read up are

if i put the cd's in the pc and look at the cd through windows nothing is recognised just as you would expect from a correctly burnt cd

the pc does not read the disk you are just using a different drive to read the media

the standard xbox thompson,samsung,phillips,lg hitachi , dvd drives all have issues reading different media

many people have will encounter this problem so hopefully this might be of some use to others as it was with me

after modding my xbox i think programs like slayers and autoinstaller deluxen are very usefull and definateley makes it a lot easier and faster to do
