GENERAL Extra Fans On Top Of Console??

hi

my son has decided he wants a xbox360 for his 7th birthday and i have a spare 2008 phat i can give him til hes old enough to buy a new 1.

im thinking to save him from tears case it rrod on him to place extra fans on top of console to help with mobo temps.

i have a spare white case for the console after my last console mod.

so my question is -- Should i have the fans blowing cold air in or should they be blowing hot air out? whats the best way to have them??

I would say that blowing cooler air into the console would help keep it cooler and offer better airflow.... but you would then have to worry about the fan sucking in dust and stuff like that.

Yes I was thinking the same about dust and stuff if it was blowing cold air in.

Any1 else hav experience with this mod?

You biggest problem is going to be cooling the GPU heatsink. As we all know air follows the path of least resistance. Adding an extra fan to the top of the case over the CPU and the external GPU heat sinks will decrease temps a little yes. But really your pushing more air through the biggest hole. The biggest hole is of course the CPU. So really this benefits the CPU far more then the GPU.

If your really wanting to buy this console some extended life the best route to take is the Xdrive+Xfan kit. The results of this kit are amazing. Its worth every penny.

I'll save you from turning your console into a vacuum cleaner.

If your console is going to RRoD, it will do so. I've reballed numerous consoles with fan mods on them from day 1 and I can tell you it won't do anything to solve the problem. Sure, it'll run cooler but that's about it.

I don't know if the U.K. has craigslist or something similar but here in the states I get slims all the time for $40 to $60 bucks with the power supply and only thing wrong with them is lasers need replaced. May be something for you to look into because it would probably be just as expensive for those parts as to buy a slime with laser problem then fix that phat.
