Extra remote functions

B

BillyF

I was watching a dvd the other night and after the disk finished (on the menu screen) there was some really annoying music and other sounds.

my question/request is......

Would it be possible to be able to either turn off or in game reset my xbox using just the remote, for when I havn't got a controller plugged in ?

maybe typing in a code so that I don't do it by accident ?

The picture went yellow, now there's no video *grrr*

Hey,
I was playing the new Fight Night demo, then all of the sudden, a yellow tint appeared over my picture...a big discolorization.

A couple of minutes later, the color returned to normal. I went to exit the demo and go back to my 360 dash and my system froze. I tried to restart it, and now I'm not getting a picture. I hear the audio, and my tv get's these squiggly diagonal lines flowing across it, but I don't even see the 360 dash.

The 360's not displaying any red-light codes, or beeps. Any ideas?

Sooner or later you'll get the red ring come up, sounds like the gpu is becoming unsoldered from the board and thats what causes the problem your having.

Thanks guys...it did [temporarily] work. Got everything back on the screen after heating the solder up & tightening the heatsinks, but it wasn't long after before the screen started to get a blue then yellow discoloration.

Looks like I'm gonna replace the thermal paste [again] and start from square one. *sigh* - Thanks for the input guys

You mentioned tightening the heat-sinks... what kind of x-clamp fix do you have? Sometimes an x-clamp fix can cause more warping / uneven pressure than just leaving the x-clamps in. Since about 4-5 months ago, I started leaving the x-clamps in for my repairs and I find doing that is better (and cheaper and faster). An alternative is to use the x-clamps but replace the small plastic block on it with a piece of foam. When I do use an x-clamp fix, I use this one: xbox-experts.com/tutorial/.../.

Also, how did you heat the solder up? Doing the 'baking trick' (with the console powered on) is not good (and here's a short explanation why).

Unless you are able to do a proper reflow (or a reball), your repair attempts won't last long.

I started getting a red tint on my screen then bam no video again.

I reflowed, re heat sinked again (with bolt xclamp fix) and this time i decided to pop the mobo into a spare micro pc case i had. and i did the 12 v fan mod to one of my fans.

didnt come out pretty but lemme tell you its running cool as hell now.

I also want to get myself a few stick on heat sinks for the gpu chips on the side.

im going to see how long it lasts this time. lasted about 1.5 years after first fix.

Getting a Aoyue would be the proper way to reflow but that can get costly...i have reflowed a few w/ the heat gun and they are all still working fine....just gotta watch that u dont "bubble up" the MT chip, GPU, CPU or the ram chips....
