Can someone explain what the deal is with the whole F gets everything no G or F gets so much and G gets the rest. Does it really make a difference how I set it up?

In earlier days, the BIOS (little chip sized traffic cop that tells all the other chips and stuff how to interact with eachother) couldn't deal with a HD larger than 137 Meg. It's also referred to as LBA48. It made it necessary to have anything over 137 Meg to be stuck on "G" drive in order to be recoginized in the first incarnation of the hack.

That's been fixed (extra-hacked).

So, if you have a drive OVER 137 Meg, you need decide if you want the legacy way (a G drive with all the extra space over 137 Meg) or the "better" way with F reflecting the whole size of the HD you've installed.

I've got the legacy way working on my 160 Gig because I didn't want to have to re-format it and re-copy everything. IE: Legacy is good for those of us who upgrade our chips.

Does this help explain it?

might as well go with big f. when you got stuff on g then stuff on f and you get close to the end of your drives space, you will have shuffling of files and will just end up like me wishing they had the option to format a large f partition when they first setup their drive....Im currently in the stage of backing up all my data (whole 185gb of it) onto my pc's which only got 40gb hdd's. So now i turn to dvd's.....

plus some apps won't detect your G drive, or you need to screw around in the settings to make it look for G:

You will need to edit the dvd2Xbox.xml file in order for dvd2xbox to see the F&G drives.
