OK, now compare your chip with the ones on that site ...
If it says Xenium on the side of the chip, then you are pretty much assured that you have a pretend chip. If it says X3, then it will be X3.
Fake chips seem to be more an issue with the Xenium and SmartXX crowd. I guess the X3 is harder to reverse engineer or something
I have not kept up with the latest developments. My console got banned in November last year.
I am just wondering if anyone found a way to get aroudn the problem of installing the games on hard disk and playing from hard disk rather than the DVD ROM?
Is it better to stick the hard drive on a unbanned console then do the update directly from it? I might be able to keep avatars and stuff, I am not sure?
The update doesn't go to the hard disk drive, it goes to the system. So your stuff may still be corrupted even after the update, since it ran off a banned console.
