RGH Falcon boot issues

all I've done is install the coolrunner , program the coolrunner (I think) and read my nand several times (all 4 compared the same and I was able to load it into Nand healer).

in all the guides I read it said to stop now, flip to phat & norm mode, and to boot the xbox before you program the nand. so that's what I did!

I was greeted with no signal and a black screen, the xbox green center led flashes eagerly, the coolrunner continues its red light and after roughly 35 seconds the xbox 3rrod'd.
I read that it rrod's if you haven't written the nand and it can't boot within 20 seconds anyway.

at this point I began fiddling with the wires on the back , routing them different ways as the diagrams on the site suggest and using bits of tape to sort of tack them in place. my first move of the wires on the back resulted in the ability to boot to the dash twice , near instantly.
Yay I thought! and quickly reinforced the wire-placement with a tiny bit of glue gun.
I tried again to boot it (quite pleased with myself) and was quickly greeted to a black screen similar to when I first tried.

I've been this way ever since and I've even tried rerouting the green wire several different ways. not a single boot.

curious if I'd actually broken something I removed the red 3.3V cable from the coolrunner , gave it power , and it boots instantly , every time.

what do I try next? I saw mention of a capacitor but there was much talk about it being only for jaspers.

maybe my soldering is dodgy? I've been away from it for about 10 years but it looked alright to me , especially at the start , before I started having to move wires this way and that to route wires and recheck points....

am I just not getting the perfect spot for the wires?

included a few pics

any input or past experience would be massively appreciated as this is my first RGH attempt!

No I have not tried that yet. I thought I was supposed to be able to boot reliably to the dash first and that I had to flash the nand in order to get to the xell portion of the install.

and yesh you guys are fast.

The pictures actually were with macro mode on my camera.
I think the site shrunk them and my camera will only focus about 6-8 inches away. I'll give it another shot in a bit as I wasn't very pleased with them either.

I haven't tried to boot with the coolrunner in PRG mode , is that safe as long as the nandx isn't connected?

yeah it's an old partially functioning camera with a broken display so I can only navigate the menus from memory. I'll try and get more / better pictures in a little bit.

there is no green light on the coolrunner. there was before I flashed it though and then it turned off.

I have not generated the ecc file yet.

here is the log from when I think I programmed my coolrunner. (why is my output filesize different than the the 2B50 I see from tutorials?)

Nands are the same
Programming Coolrunner
Flashing D:\J-Runner\common\xsvf\falcon.xsvf to CoolRunner
Input Filesize: 593E
Output Filesize: 2832
Done!

Exited!

If i understand him correctly he is trying to get his box to start before flashing anything. Like Martinc in his guide says.

if the box doesnt start with stock image with the coolrunner installed then there is no point in even continuing.

thats why i asked if the coolrunner has a flashing green light when starting.

if there is no green light (Green light of the coolrunner should flash when starting the box) then check you wiring, the green wire has alot of exposed wire.

closer pictures would be helpfull.

So does the console boot with the CR switch set to PRG?

Also, check my sticky called 'pics' - you can be quite far away when using macro mode and then use a paint utility to zoom/crop as needed.

I actually can't believe I left that out , it's on dash 14699. I'm trying to take some better pictures now.

ok, the symptoms you are describing can happen when you have a 14717 / 14719 stock image with coolrunner set to nor.
if you are on 14699 then it's probably your soldering.
