Hi guys getting frustrated with this falcon everything went fine matching nand dumps built my xell image flashed it to the nand power cycled...Then it tried to boot fans spun for a second switched off so i resolderd stby clk as thats usuall culprit no boot nothing after that...all pads intact nand wrote back fine i even did the stby clk repair to be sure..I am thinking maybe the resistor is blown going to get sum batteries for the multimeter as its all going pete tong today as thats just died on me. :( anybody got any suggestions as to what could be wrong i would be most gratefull...I have uploaded pics of the solder points/repair stby clk am stumped at the moment the cr is all desolderd and original nand is flashed back (no red on power pack for short all orange when plugged in)

The resistors are giving me a 33/34 and stby clk tests for continuity too but i just did the stby clk repair to be sure.....

Why have you taken images of your board in areas where you HAD soldered to?

It's as useful as taking a picture of a road after an accident and everything's been cleared away.

"Then it tried to boot fans spun for a second switched off"

This has nowt to do with STBY_CLK.

" i resolderd stby clk as thats usuall culprit"

why?????? in case you had magically moved the point?

" i even did the stby clk repair to be sure"

Again, why? continuity from the alt. point (bottom of the board) to the STBY_CLK solder point is all you need to do. If your multimeter is out of juice, do nothing until you have it working.

Can you now post pics of your soldering BEFORE you removed all evidence?

the juice ran out on my multimeter so i did the repair to be sure i have since checked and its fine so are the resisitors...And what is the usuall culprit of the instant shutdowns (now no longer boots) as most times when theres no boot or cut offs i have found it to be stby clk or resistors but i have only done maybe 30 so probly not on your scale...I have uploaded pictures of my install took them just before i started the stby clk repair

Where are your pictures of your soldered points BEFORE you removed them?

Without seeing what you shorted, there's no telling where to start.

"what is the usuall cause of this"

sh*tty soldering.

Thanks for the input will start checking it over with the multimeter see what i can find i cant provide you with any more pics or info other than what i have allready provided you with as i have no more.... I take extra care to make sure my points do not bridge there not the hardest things in the world to solder will wash the board down and start checing it see if i have solder splash anywere

thanks

I can tell you 100% that if you turned on the console and the fans spun for a brief moment then stopped, you've shorted something due to poor soldering.

Since you decided to remove everything before taking pics (and therefore eliminating any points of interest we could help with), you have a needle-in-a-haystack situation.

Best bet is to sell the board as scrap or use it for parts. There is absolutely nothing anyone can do for you here since you've covered your tracks.

If you really thought that doing a trace repair on STBY_CLK would fix the issue based on your symptoms you should stop modding consoles immediately before you are too out of pocket.

Cool - if you're happy to just accept we're all human and mistakes happen, please don't post about them on here in future as it's a waste of people's time.

I finally sorted this out... I put it to one side since i had been ill while trying to do this and was a major factor in me not taking my time and being basicly a moron rushing and assuming things..The problem was a tiny solder fleck on the R1D2 resistor near to were i had soldered the nand x i didnt think to look there just kept looking around my CR solder points deffo had the blinkers on i scraped it away and finally it booted...anyway thanks to all who added input to this thread Martin pointed me in the propper direction as i assumed it was the stndy clk and not a ground/short issue and did all manor of stupid things and assumptions i apologise if people thought they wasted there time but tbh it helped me a great deal so i cant see it as a waste as i learnt at least 5/6 valuable lessons and wont be repeating them :)
